The Danger Shop was a dark cityscape today. When the students walked in, they would find themselves in the middle of a nearly empty street while signs of activity were coming from other blocks.
The only thing on the street right here, though, was a very
snazzy car. Oh, and Batman, standing in front of it. "As you're aware by now, I don't have any powers. And yet I patrol and defend one of the largest cities in the country in my world. Doing that takes planning, forethought, contacts, and vehicles."
"I can and do get around on the rooftops, both running and jumping across them and using a grapple to swing around them," Batman explained. "But there are limits to how fast I can run. When I need to cover several miles quickly, I generally resort to one of three vehicles."
"First is the Batwing. It's a highly mobile jet specifically designed for city environments. Second is the Batcycle. It's a motorcycle," Batman said. Yes, it was tricked out. But it was still just a motorcycle, okay? "But what you'll get to try out today is the Batmobile. It's a highly advanced armored car. It can withstand bullets, light mortars, fire, is highly impact-resistant, has automatic wheel covers to prevent theft, ejector seats, computer systems designed by me, autopilot, remote control, and a jet turbine for an extra boost."
"I've programmed several paths around this area of the city. You'll have to follow the on-board GPS to get where you need to go. Keep in mind that once you're out there, you will have to deal with traffic, and the GPS can only help you so much there. So pay attention, be careful, but get where you need to as fast as you possibly can. Because if you need to resort to speeding across the city, time is of the essence."
"Oh. If you don't know how to drive, just tell the Batcomputer that. It will read you basic instructions on how to get started," Batman said. Suddenly there were plenty more Batmobiles on the street. "Get in and get going."
