Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

Apr 30, 2011 02:29

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. Dolf wasn't usually a big fan of Queen's Day, beyond the mandatory prowling-the-Queen's-Day-flea-markets that every boy his age had to go through. But having been stuck here for a ong time now, it felt more important, somehow.

Which would explain the hat he had strapped to his back when he sat down in the audience that evening.

Shhh.

"...Do I want to know?" Cally asked when she'd spotted him in the stands and made her way over with a couple of programmes in hand.

"It's Koninginnedag," Dolf said, cheerfully. "Queen's Day. I have to wear orange."

That wasn't a law.

//You know,// Jono intoned in a bit of a psionic mutter as he stepped into the line, //I always thought these getups looked bloody ridiculous? But now that I'm wearing one, myself...//

He looked downward, thoughtfully.

//... No, it still looks ridiculous.//

Ridiculous or not, he was still getting a smile and a wave from the girlfriend in the audience, along with the empathic sending of a kiss.

The kiss very nearly made Jono trip over his gown. He recovered his poise gracefully(ish) and shot Raven a sideways glance, coupled with a wink and the telepathic sensation of a kiss right on back.

He felt slightly less ridiculous, now.

At his turn at the podium, Barney adjusted the tie peeking out from under his immaculate black professorial robes, and cleared his throat to stop any chatter that was certain to reign after the Vice President of Pajamas spoke. The Dean of Awesome Students was totally waiting for you, grandma. And you, hairy guy in the back.

"Are you ready, Class of 2011?" Barney asked, looking over the graduates with a sharp eye. "Because it starts now. You know the part I'm talking about. And not whatever horror awaits you with el presidente's speech, though I am told it will be legendary and likely to lead to some panty tossing. Sorry grandma! No, I'm talking about real life. The boring stuff with filing and flipping burgers and whatever else high school graduates are capable of doing these days. Just remember, you made it through plagues, labyrinths, and freaking godzilla, you can overcome the boredom that is life. And if not, then by God, suit the hell up and spend a weekend on our fair island - a quick aside, I hear the Arms Hotel ( ... )

Once the speeches were over, Principal Winchester came back up to the podium, and called each graduate's name to give them their diploma.

Last in the procession and first to get his diploma? That worked for him. Smirking, Alex crossed the stage to snag his diploma and officially end his high school days.

One Karev hadn't messed up too badly. That had to count for something.

Bruce clapped a little louder than his typical clap as a show of respect for a guy who wasn't as bad as he thought a year ago. That was a great compliment, Karev.

I'm pretty sure you missed 18 umlauts when you spelled "Gotterdammerung."

Yes, I realize there are 15 letters in it. I swear they snuck some extra umlauts in there, though.
