Unconventional Tactics, Tuesday, Period 2

Nov 09, 2010 07:50

"Yo, Rookies!" If Reno looked a little less mellow than usual, that was totally the imagination of everyone in the class. If he looked like he'd done up a few more buttons than usual on his shirt, too? Well, that much wasn't. Even Reno could respect when it was really freaking awkward to go around half-dressed in front of students who were ( Read more... )

Take notes, squirm, whatever.

Reno will make you sit in the corner if you try to crawl onto your classmates or something.

Raven had realized something was likely affecting everyone on the island again, since the increase in arousal she was picking up from everyone around her certainly wasn't natural. She was desperately fooling herself trying not to let it affect her, though there were a couple of people she knew she should probably avoid until this all passed.

...oh, Azar, Karla was in this class with her, wasn't she?

...yeah, in all honesty, Kennedy was mostly curious as to how Raven was handling the whole being-around-Karla thing these days when she happened to glance that way.

In a stunning moment of irony, the fact that she just happened to click her tongue stud kind of loudly against her teeth right then wasn't intended to get a reaction out of Raven; Kennedy just happened to be thinking (a bit more vividly than usual) about someone else in the class at the time.

Raven jumped a little at the click, moreso from the jolt of emotion than the noise itself. She was blocking out most of the background noise of hormones, but she'd made a habit of keeping a tiny thread of power connected to her friends so she might know if they were in trouble, and Kennedy's thoughts had merrily zoomed up that thread. She squirmed a little, glancing over at Kennedy with wide eyes.

What can you do to help fortify what you've got when something strikes Fandom? You don't have to be a tech nerd or a mage in order to keep lookout or to scout for places with a tactical advantage, so there should be something for everyone, here.

Raven really wasn't a tactician, so she wasn't sure what she could contribute to this conversation. Besides, her mind was starting to wander as her gaze flitted across her classmates. No, no, bad thoughts. Someone was going to need a cold shower.

She was also getting a severe headache from Ino's strange raginess at Professor Reno.

"Scout," she said, very very flatly. "Spy."

Okay, Reno knew that Ino was cranky. Reno could even appreciate why Ino was cranky. But that didn't mean that Reno wasn't going to poke the ninja.

"You wanna elaborate on that one, Rookie?"

He suspected that she didn't, but, well...

Who are not exempt from that 'Reno will sit you in the corner if you try to crawl onto your classmates' thing, either.

But they probably knew that.

Chloe still wasn't sure what was going on and why she was feeling so restless and, well, odd.

However, seeing the argument between Reno and Ino that made no sense to her had her both concerned for them... and sitting very still at her seat.

Pretending to be invisible helped in most cases...

...though it didn't stop the twitchiness she was feeling.

Who is sitting behind his desk, for once. Probably just to reiterate his 'I am the teacher, you are the students' standpoint at the moment.

It's really weird, balancing these things when you were classmates with some of your pupils just a year and a half before.

After class, Karla made her way over to Reno's desk. She had another note to give and apology to offer.

"Hey, uhh, Reno?" Karla said, standing awkwardly in front of his desk. "Do you have a minute? Maybe more than one?"

He was getting a special letter, too. Maybe. Did being a Rookie extend that far? Karla wasn't sure.

Being a Rookie extended as far as being a Rookie needed to extend, and Reno raised an eyebrow a little, glancing Karla's way, making special note of her general change in appearance, and remembering the last time he'd seen her drop weight so suddenly.

"Yo, Rookie. What's up?"

Huh.

"Well, I guess the first thing I should do is apologize for missing a few classes," Karla said, shuffling out a bit awkwardly. "I have a note--" she handed it over to him, "--but it's a week out of date. I came back to the island and got turned into an Arcerian cat for a week."

Which had been pretty nice while it lasted, actually.

"And...well, I have another letter for you, too," she said, fidgeting a little more. "If, umm, you want it. It's kind of long? And personal?"

Then realizing how that might sound, she hastily added, "From my sortof guardian. About me, not from me."

No teenage, fangirly love letters, Reno. Don't worry.
