"What?"
...
Really, Anakin, did you really think you could improve upon what years of lectures about muddying the succession had done to Arthur's conception of 'sleeping with women'?
He just stared. "Technically," he started, sensibly, "...this isn't supposed to be a problem until I get married."
Oh, right, they would have the loud one, wouldn't they?
Effy was hardly the expert at dealing with babies, and even less of an expert at dealing with electronic ones. Maybe Griff was secretly the paternal type... A girl could hope.
In the meantime, "Got any bright ideas on shutting it up, dad?" She could take her amusement from teasing her new fake babydaddy. Making him flail was a pastime.
Yeah, there was no way Griff was feeling paternal here. And clearly the professor hated him for sticking him with the roommate's girl for the assignment. "Maybe you should pick it up, mum," Griff shot back, trying not to look like he was terrified of the thing.
Effy wrinkled her nose as she looked down at it. "Why don't you? Sure you're a natural." Or, at the very least, more natural than her. That wouldn't take much.
Then again, the look on his face said otherwise. "Bet it doesn't bite."

Maybe even a wee baby cheerleading outfit.
"So, what should we call her?" she asked her partner.

"Hmmm, um..." she considered her options and then suggested, "maybe Natalie? After my dad, Nathan?"

It looked like a real person, but it clearly wasn't. "Right..."
