There was, thankfully, modded--razzumfrazzum storms-- good weather for the day of the picnic. It was almost eerie how that always seemed to happen

The list of roommate assignments was, but of course, located in a prime spot on one of the tables. Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change.

"It's my name," Jonas said, having heard his name above the din of the crowd. He followed the source and approached Codex slowly, eyes down and movements easy. He didn't think of himself as intimidating but this was a completely new experience. People didn't just automatically know him.

She hadn't expected a response, so Cyd was startled at first. Then she saw Jonas. Jonas was definitely a boy. "Oh," was the first thing out of her mouth, followed by a "hello." Then she managed to recover from the initial confusion. "This list says we're roommates. Surprise!"

"Which means we live together," he put together considering roommate was one of those easily figured out compound words. "I've only ever lived with my brother."
And Gabriel had been young and fussy, nothing like the girl standing in front of him.
"I'm not messy," he added for no good reason than he didn't want to surprise her further.

"I am," she said apologetically. "But it's usually an organized mess. I'll try to keep it clean, and only ever keep things on my side of the room," she promised. "Is your brother here too?"
Re: Meet Your Roommate (Fall 2009)see_beyondAugust 29 2009, 11:59:43 UTC
Gabe was young, still growing so he was used to toddler messes and decided he could handle an organized mess. He almost welcomed it after years spent with so few things to make a mess with.
"He's not," he answered, shaking his head. "Gabriel's still in the Village. He's young. Younger than me. He's an..."
Ages still threw him and the phrasing was started before he could stop himself. He'd just have to correct it. "He's about three."

"Oh, so young! I can promise you I'm tidier than a three year old." Most days. "I had a male housemate for a little while, so I'm sure we can work this all out and get used to each other." She prayed over and over and over in her head that Jonas was a better (and less obsessive) housemate than Zaboo. "It could be fun," she said, attempting to stay upbeat.

She didn't talk quite as much as Kelly from the newbie shuttle but Jonas got the sense that she talked for far different reasons than Kelly too.
"It could be," he agreed with a small nod and matching smile. "And I think anyone's tidier than a three year old. He likes to throw things and make me pick them up. I think he thinks it's amusing."
And really, Jonas didn't mind. Being able to see Gabe do that after having been so close to Release was reward of it's own.

"He sounds adorable." In a 'that kid over there that I don't have to clean up after' kind of way, of course. "I promise not to do that either," she joked. "You can have whichever side of the room you want," Codex went on to say. "I'll just need access to wherever there's a power outlet, but I brought some extension cables with me, so it shouldn't be a problem."

"Power outlet?" It was a technological term, he knew that but he was more curious as to what she had. "For a...television?"
Not a video screen like he wanted to call it. Television. Moving pictures on a video screen used for entertainment purposes. The extension cables weren't something he was going to ask about yet.

"Isn't Jonas a boy's name?"
There it was.

He barely knew what a computer was. Just barely.
"I don't know if I brought anything that actually needs power."
