When students entered the classroom today, they would find not one, but two men standing at the front. One of them was probably familiar to some of them, the other one was a new face... Although his wardrobe probably needed a little updating.

She was the least knowledgeable TA of American History ever, but she was there after talking to Tyler-sensei and flipping through the book he'd given her as a primer.

Man, she had a lot of reading to do.

"Don't think," Cal couldn't help commenting after class, "that just because you're TA, that I'm going to listen to you any more than usual."

...could she shove people into detention?

"And, well, whatever. I think you'll kinda have to if you come to class and the teachers are gone. 'Cause I'll be the one in charge then." Which was a weird thing to contemplate. American. History. With Ino in charge.

"There's two of them, though," Cal pointed out. "That's a pretty good buffer against the idea of both of them getting sick or gone. And you can't put me in detention. Especially since I'll probably end up there anyway without having done anything."

"Oh, sure," she said, wrinkling her nose at him cheerfully enough despite her words, "ruin my fun in imagining trying to teach something I've utterly no idea about and take away my hopes of wielding power over people. You're a cruel man, Cal."

"Now I really hope it does happen," Cal couldn't help a bit of a chuckle, "just to see how you manage it. But, hey, if that happens to be the class we cover the sixties or seventies, you've got an in."

"True," she conceded, a little dubiously. "Though how much effort I'd have to put out to con you into helping me might make it harder. Maybe I'll just have people make soap. And lie loads 'bout how important it is to the American people."

At the very least, Ino knew she could teach people to make soap. History was another matter.

"It is important to the American people," Cal said. "It helps prevent us from being smelly and getting confused for French."

"See?" He flashed her his best smile. "I can totally help you."

"I can speak French though," she complained. "Even if it's out of date. And I know more 'bout last century France than anytime America. Maybe I'll do soap anyway. I like making soap."

"You can have us make it in the shape of famous American figures," Cal suggested, because now his brain was working. "Or, like, mini soap Mount Rushmores."

"Mount Rushmore?" Ino asked. "And now you've got me thinking that it might actually be a good idea. Soap figures. Oooooh, maybe 'bout their favourite American invention, or something. That'd count as historical, right?"

"That's totally historical," Cal agreed with a nod. "And a good idea. And Mount Rushmore's this big mountain face in, like...Colorado," no, it wasn't, "or something, where some guy carved into the face of four of it our most notable presidents."

"Uhhhh...If the Hokage Monument is a big giant mountain with faces in the side of it, then, yes, exactly like the Hokage Monument, Ino."

She flushed. "It's just, when people become the Hokage, we put their faces up on the mountain so that they're... always looking after the village."

...Ino was just going to hope that didn't sound as lame as she thought it did.
