"Sorry I missed class last week," Reno said, still tired, but at least he was starting to hold his shoulders square again. "Somethin' came up, back home. Had to deal with it. I miss anything important?"

He didn't wait for a response as he reached into his briefcase and pulled out the previous week's lab. "You can just read through this and handwavily write a paragraph summarizing, and if you wanna do the lab, let Rikku know and she can get the keys and some extra ice from me."

Reno was so damn thankful that Tyler had pressed on without making Reno elaborate. Best teacher he'd ever missed a class on, ever, right there.

Tyler had long since learned that excuses and explanations were generally a waste of time. "Not a problem at all," he told Reno. "See you next week. And take some candy."

The kid looked thin and a little shaky.
