The classroom had been reconfigured today, with tables and chairs instead of regular desks. At each station were drawing pads, packs of good old-fashioned
Crayola crayons, and boxes of
pastels.
"Draw something," Steve said. "Draw anything. Have fun. And when you leave, take your sketchpad and a pack of either crayons or pastels with you, and your homework for the week is to draw me a landscape. It doesn't necessarily have to be a landscape from the island. It can be something from home. Or something you make up. So." He clapped his hands. "Get to it."
