It stands and watches, almost floating above the grass. Fearsome though it may seem, it has a serene and very noble air about it. Come close and speak to the Qilin, but it may not acknowledge you if you do not give it the proper respect.

This time Naminé crouched a little to be sure her curtsy brought her head lower than the Qilin's. "Good afternoon," she said again. "Thank you for coming to our class. What sorts of questions may we ask of you?"

"I thank you again," she said. "I know nothing of your kind, so should I inadvertantly give offense, please know that it is of ignorance and not malice, and I shall apologize immediately. D said that you are a creature of great power - what power is it that you hold?"

The Qilin bowed its head in return. "Your thanks do me honor, child," it said, sounding rather young itself. "I am hardly wise, but I am pleased by how you address me."

Karal had to fight the sudden urge to unburden himself completely - some part of him thought the Qilin would understand - but it would have been unforgivably rude. "I am my people's Envoy to an alliance of countries, they set me in my master's place when he was killed, and the council does not tend to value the opinions of one so young." He smiled slightly. "But I will find a way to make it work."

"Afternoon," it replied in a child-like voice, bowing slightly in return. "Sir will do. I thank you for the respect you pay me, uncertain though you are."
