"Right, kids, let's get started, shall we? Boys, I warn you now, you might not be that interested in this week's topic. But never fear, next week we'll do something appropriately manly. Maybe the Bund films. For now . . ." Daisy picked up a stack of print outs and started passing them around. "Say hello to Jane Austen.

"Love her or hate her, you just can't escape Jane when it comes to modern Chick-lit or Chick-flicks. Her stories have a classic romance to them, while still employing strong minded, willful, and kind of neurotic female leads that appeal to the feminist in the modern woman. As to whether or not Austen was actually a feminist, well, I'll leave that up to you to decide.

"What are some other themes that Austen uses that make her work still relevant, today? How are those employed in the movie adaptations? Is it all just an excuse to get Colin Firth wet and Victorian? I want to you to pay specific attention, especially to the many different modernized adaptations of her work. And ladies, feel free to oggle the gentlemen in these films. That's kind of what they're there for."

[ooc: OCD is coming up. Handwave is always allowed, of course. Remember to meta!]
