I also liked his declaration to his friends that he would not be going back. That seemed very teenagerish. And I enjoyed that James understood him from the get-go.
The idea that Andromeda and Sirius corresponded makes me happy. They must have had quite a few shared frustrations and it's nice to think they could have used each other as an outlet.
There were a few times when I wanted to be able to see the characters a little more vividly in my mind's eye, like during Sirius's conversation with his parents, but maybe I wasn't doing my part as the reader to whirl up a good vision of them. : )
Lastly, I also liked the scene with Sirius and Remus sitting up late with Firewhisky to discuss when Peter turned on them. Surely, that must have happened at some point. And it's really nice to think that Remus's company provided some consolation to Sirius while shut up in the Grim Old Place.
