"I can't promise anything," the Doctor answered.
"Doctor!" Rose cried.
"I can't! You don't know what might happen. I don't either, really. It could, conceivably, become necessary to leave Jack behind again. I hope it doesn't, but it might. But, Jack…I hope you'll stay anyway."
"It's not a question of staying, of course I'm staying." Jack sighed. "You can't fix me."
"I don't expect to."
