The Lexicon is saved from excessive pedantry because the overall subject is so much fun. After all, in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" students hurled the Conjunctivitis Curse at each other. When everyone's walking around with magical red eye, how serious can you be?

. . . I feel I have to pause a minute and reflect. What sort of person does this kind of compulsive list-making? I mean it in no derogatory way to say, that his nerdishness is of a very specific type, and the fun in it is incomprehensible to me. But I'm sure many others, who are different from me, can identify strongly.

Well, apparently we won't be seeing any excerpts from the book any time soon. Not unless I go out and buy a copy. (Shudders at the thought.)

I certainly don't envy Steve. Rumour has it that Roger is a serial talker. It sounds to me like something Dante might have dreamed up: Two non-stop talkers trapped on a road trip across America. And what's worse is that Roger likes to embellish his stories. I imagine that, by the time they hit Florida, he'll have rewritten the events of the past year and be telling it as if Judge Patterson negotiated a settlement.
