Ben had only known Annie for two weeks.

Yet two weeks were enough to recognise that she fiddles with her hair when nervous, bites her lip while thinking (although she'll deny this), and above all: her eyes give away everything.

For a CIA agent such a trait could throw off a mission, but Annie was smart enough to use it to her advantage, of that he was certain. If she had to cry, she would cry. If she needed to play a high stakes game of poker he wouldn't call her bluff.

It was then almost ironic that Annie fall in love with a blind man; although you didn't have to be able to see to know that the two of them were completely enamored with each other. From across the outside patio he could see it in the way she placed her hand on his forearm while leaning in to whisper something, eyes feigning shock, and laughter erupting from them both moments after.

"I'll drink to that," Annie shouted triumphantly, clinking her glass with the other man's even while he chastised her with a smile for being so loud. She had the good grace to smile sheepishly afterward and the man ruffled her hair playfully.

Although Annie had an almost preternatural sense for noticing when he was nearby she made no sign of realising that he was merely feet away. A baseball cap could only do so much, but only if the interest was there.

Ben watched as Annie stood up, waiting for the other man to stand and to get his bearings before pushing in their chairs and reaching nonchalantly for his free hand. The man looked down at her with unadulterated affection and leaned his head toward hers so that their foreheads were touching. Annie reached up to touch her hand to his cheek momentarily and without a further word they left.

He had no doubt that Annie had loved him, just like he had no doubt that she would be fine - she would be happy. Leaving a twenty dollar bill on the table he got up to pick up a piece of paper from the table they had just abandoned before allowing it to flutter back down to the surface.

"Thank you, Auggie Anderson."
