Author: scifinut
Fandom: SG1
Pairing/Characters: Sam Carter, Vala Mal Doran
Rating/Category: Gen, PG
Prompt: Sam and Vala trying on lingerie at Victoria's Secret
Summary: Sam has a plan to be a little bit girlish, and takes Vala along for some cultural education. But she's not the only one with a plan.
Notes/Warnings: I completely forgot about the deadline and wrote this all after 10:00 the night before it was due. (And here I thought I was OUT of college....silly me.) It's been run through a rough beta by archae_ology if she got around to it, but all mistakes are mine. And another resource I couldn't have done without is here. Hope you all enjoy it!

Plans of Lace and Satin

Vala was following Sam through the outdoor mall. She was still curious as to why they had driven so far to go shopping, usually they went to the mall in Colorado Springs. This time they had come all the way into Denver for some sort of secret store.

"Who is Victoria, anyway?" she asked as they came up to the entrance. "And don't you think that this isn't such a secret anymore? I mean, this place is..." Vala's voice dropped to nothing as they entered the boutique. Her eyes glassed over as she tried to take in all the clothes and glitter and perfume and utter pinkness of the place around her.

Sam smiled. It was so rare for her to have time to herself to go out and act like a girl, and there was nothing she did that was more girly than trying on lingerie. She never bought anything, but it wasn't for lack of money. It was simply that there was nobody to show it to, and she felt silly buying it to take it home and put it in a drawer and never use it. "Come on, this way," she said, taking Vala's hand and leading her into one of the side rooms. It was filled with bustiers and teddies and all sorts of lace and satin.

"I've died and gone to heaven," Vala muttered, grabbing item after item off the shelves. Sam grabbed a few more, and within a minute both of them had their arms completely loaded.

It was then that a young lady approached them, pink measuring tape hanging off her neck. "Is there anything I can help you ladies with today? A fitting room or two, perhaps?" She smiled, thinking about what a huge sale this was going to be.

"Just one, thanks," Vala answered before Sam could speak up. "And where's your leather?"

A look of surprise passed over the salesperson's face. "I don't believe we carry any, though if you're interested, I could give you a few other places to look around town."

"No thanks," Sam replied. "Just the dressing room." She had doubts about sharing one with Vala, wondering what the other woman was planning. It could have been something as simple as asking opinions or sharing gossip from around the base, but it could have been something much different. There was no way of telling, and no polite way to get out of it now. Oh well, it would be another bonding experience, and wasn't that why she brought Vala in the first place?

As they went in and unloaded their arms, Vala smiled sweetly at Sam. Each of them had half of the dressing room for her own items, and the last two walls were dubbed the keep wall and the trash wall. Dubbed, of course, by Vala. Sam had planned going into this that nothing would be kept, and she would try to stick to that. There was just no use in buying things that nobody else was there to see.

Vala stripped down to her underwear in almost no time flat, pulling on the first item she grabbed. It was barely more than bits of satin covering her chest. "How does it look?" she asked Sam, who was still trying to figure out the logistics of undressing in such a small space. Sam stared, her brow unconsciously drawing in a bit. "That bad?" Vala sighed. "I figured it was worth a try, though I do suppose I've lost the body I used to have."

"No, it looks great on you," Sam said. "It's just...what would you wear it for? I mean...it's winter. In Colorado. Not exactly the right weather for...that." It really did look good on Vala, somehow. And she was starting to get nervous. Maybe sharing a dressing room wasn't the right idea in the first place. Vala was skinnier and had much better luck with the opposite sex. And the same sex. And probably intersex and other sexes as well. And she didn't have a problem with spending money, as long as it was fun. Probably not a good idea.

"Well, come on, try something on yourself," Vala chided. "You've got a pile just as big as mine, and I'd hate to be left with extra time on my hands. Who knows what I could come up with to do?" There was a darkly teasing look in her eyes as she smiled at Sam. "So, you really don't think it's right for me?"

Sam managed a short laugh. "No, it's really not right for you. Maybe something with a bit more coverage for the winter." And Vala was right. Leaving her to do nothing but sit and watch and think was dangerous. Throwing what was left of her caution to the wind, she stripped down to her underwear and grabbed the first thing on her pile. "Hey, I don't remember grabbing this!" It was a red negligee with white fur fringe at the top and bottom.

Vala looked up as she was changing. "Oh that? I grabbed it for you. I figured you could use it to dress up as Mrs. Claus at the holiday party this year. That is what she traditionally wears, yes? Red and white fringe?" She was wrestling herself into her second piece, a bustier that clipped all the way up the back. "I grabbed one in my size too, so I can try it on. Save it for later so we can do it together!"

There was something in the simple enthusiasm of Vala's voice that Sam just couldn't argue with. She was trying to fit into the culture, even if she was putting her own unique spin onto it. "Okay," she agreed, grabbing the next one. It was a simple pink slip, very little in terms of decoration, but the shade of it was something that had grabbed her eye.

"That's lovely on you!" Vala exclaimed as she finished clipping herself in. "The shade brings out your eyes, and it's fantastic with your skin color. You should keep it." She did a test spin and looked down at her own chest, bulging slightly out of the top. "Maybe this one isn't the best for me, though. It'd look a bit funny, walking around with all of this hanging over the top." She frowned. "I thought this was the right size. Oh well."

Sam looked at herself in the mirror. There was a bit of a glow about her face in it, and her eyes did kind of sparkle a bit more. "Are you sure? It doesn't exactly match the standard uniform."

"Sam, trust me. You look absolutely beautiful in that. Much better than that boring old uniform any day." Vala smiled and started unhooking the bustier behind her, looking hopefully at the next item.

The two of them went back and forth for nearly fifteen minutes. Sam had added a few more items to the keep wall, but Vala's side of it was empty. Everything had been too big, too small, or just plain wrong. "Alright, time for the last one!" she cried happily, despite not keeping anything. It was the Mrs. Claus slips, as they had now been dubbed laughingly. She smiled as they both slipped theirs on and examined each other. "I think it's a keeper."

"I think so too," Sam agreed after a few seconds time to look. Maybe she wouldn't wear it to the holiday party in front of the General, but there was definitely going to be an entire night after that to stay at home and entertain herself and be a girl. "Alright, are we done?" This had been the entire point. Not to go out and grab things in the right size. Sam had explained that on the way over. You tried on what you grabbed, and that was that.

Vala smiled sweetly at Sam. "Well, I think we should at least get dressed first, don't you?" She began pulling her own clothes on, the smile not coming off her face. She couldn't help it. Sam had invited her along figuring it would be a nice plan. But Vala had seen it from the beginning. Sam wasn't going to buy anything when she came into the store. She had grabbed the wrong things on purpose, wanting some of her excitement rub off until Sam finally realized she could be a girly girl at home too, and break down and buy something. And it had worked.
