Raise our Goal?

Based on a comment and my own thoughts on the subject, a poll! I picked the $1000 goal because the progress meter needed an end point. Do we want to change the goal for Campaign #1 to something higher to give ourselves something to reach for on the way to September 1st?

I guess I'm going to take a contrary view. I also agree that $2K seems a very doable goal, but I think the problem with any fundraising effort is sustaining interest over a long period of time. And from what I understand fandom_rocks is to go on at least through the next season (and futher seasons if we're lucky to get them). That means there will be several fundraising drives going on over the next year and while on the one hand getting more publicity out there will help keep new donations coming in, it's also possible "donation fatigue" could set in. Rather than setting the bar really high for this first drive I'd say having escalating goals for future drives might be better. I think it's better to be able to announce that "we've met our goal" than "we only reached 50% of our goal." For whatever reason people tend to be more generous to successful campaigns (it also tends to make for better publicity headlines). Plus, having $1000 donation to each charity this time is still a good start.

On a different tack is there any word about donations being sent directly to the charities? Presumably the publicity for the Lawrence one should be helping donations to the charity as well as to fandom_rocks.

You make some very good points here. I understand what you mean about donation fatigue setting in. I like your idea of escalating the goals for future drives.

Very good points. Campaigns after September will last six months. I think being creative about the campaigns will be a bigger and bigger part of what the three of us (and other fans) do for the campaigns so fatigue doesn't set in. I do like the idea of escalating - taking what we did the previous time and doubling it or something like that.

We haven't heard from anyone that donated directly to the charities. We just asked that if someone did they make sure to note it is a part of Fandom Rocks so we can add it to the total. We are in contact with both charities, so we can check with them if they have received things separately.
