Okay folks, here are the plans for visiting Lawrence and presenting LCS with their half of the donations.
I will be leaving Champaign, IL no later than 12 noon on Saturday, September 1st. It is a little over 7-hours driving time to get to Lawrence.
Check Google Maps: if you are between me and Lawrence, I have one spot left in my car.
I snagged a room at the
Quality Inn in Lawrence for Saturday and Sunday night. I would LOVE to meet some of you and talk Supernatural. I am pretty sure they have space and decent rates. It's very close to the shelter, campus, etc. If you think you can make it, let's try to stay at the same place? If you find a good hotel deal, let me know because I can always cancel my reservations up to the day of.
On Sunday, we will head to the shelter around noon. The presentation of the donation will occur at 12:30PM. We will get a tour of the facility immediately afterwards. It is a 7000ft2 building, so the tour won't take long.
After the tour, we will go across the street to the soup kitchen to help serve and, hopefully, have some time to eat and chat with the board of directors and community members. The shelter does not serve a lunch meal on Sunday, but the majority of their guests go to the soup kitchen across the street for the meal there. A good number of elderly citizens and fixed income citizens go there, as well, so this will definitely be an opportunity to learn about the situation in Lawrence and how our support of the shelter will benefit them.
The meal ends at 2PM, and we will most likely find ourselves free to tour Lawrence as we please. We can visit the University and/or drive a few miles west to
Stull.
So, that's the plan. Any thoughts? What else could we do while we are in town? Are you coming?
P.S. The community layout was updated to match the web site. Also? We have hit
$1700 in donations. THANK YOU! We've reached the final push - 10 more donors of $20 each will get us to our goal - think about that!
