How hard could it be?

Susan wiped her face for what seemed to be the millionth time, and reached for the water near her as she paused in her work. What she really wanted to do was to simply walk into the stream and float for a couple of hours; fully clothed, naked, anything in between would be more than acceptable. Nice... her white uniform shirt made it necessary that she don her black jacket once more for a time.

Cooling off in the 'drink', however, wasn't possible at the moment. She had to build one of the retaining walls with the twigs and vines that'd been collected. Honestly, she was ready to kick it down and sleep in the sand, or rather, kick it down and make Marcus sleep in the sand.

"Remind me to add that to the list of things -not- to say," the commander requested, her tones bemused. "Right up there with 'What could happen?'." She'd learned long ago that question only invited trouble, and she had no problem conveying that to any other that might have so tempted fate. She had a very good imagination.

She didn't miss the clouds rumbling in either; it looked a great deal like a giant carpet being unrolled, the front was quite noticable. The shift in air pressure actually pressed against her as she exhaled in a sigh and got back to work. "Great."

There wasn't much done, but the sky's darkening had been noticed before, and a small spot of the shelter had been partially completed, giving a little spot out and away from the elements. Not much, and it'd be cosy for more than one.

Marcus sighed as he paused to catch his breath, out of sight of the others. It was hard being resurrected from the dead; especially when you didn't want someone to know you were weakened.

He reached down for another bundle of bamboo, grateful that they were using the lightweight material, but still concerned that it wouldn't be enough.

However, back to the grind. He scooped the bundle over his shoulders and feigned a happy gait as he walked back to the shelter that Susan was helping to build. But something caught his attention, a scent on the air. Raising his face, he looked inland and realised that there was heavy rain falling on the mountain.

"There's a storm coming..." he muttered, smelling the tang of ozone on the air.

He blinked, looking down at the controls of the white star, the lights blinking crazily in front of him. As circuits burned the tang of ozone filled the air and he couldn't help a small tremble of fear.

But he was a ranger and by Valen would ACT like one. Fear wasn't in control of him, he was in control of the fear!

He sank to his knees, dropping the bundle to clutch at his pounding head. The memory was all too clear and one that he really couldn't avoid. It had been so close to the time of his death that it was, to him, just a few days ago.

"No, no, no" he moaned, forcibly trying to push his mind to the present, away from the flashback that assailed him.

John had been heading back toward the tent/tee-pee style shelter he and Aeryn had constructed with some fresh leaves for their bedding when a strange, muted noise grabbed his attention. He turned, holding the bundle of leaves in his arms, eyes scanning the area around him.

"No, no, no" he moaned

John frowned and turned, following the sound. He felt the muscles in his back tense and his steps were quiet and sure, eyes flicking around as he checked for any change in scenery.

When he came upon Marcus huddled on the floor he paused in surprise. The man had seemed so calm and sure of himself. "Whoa, hey," John said, setting down the leaves and making his way over to him. "You okay? Need me to call for one of the doctor's we got running around?"

Thunder rumbled overhead and John risked a glance skyward. Dark clouds were getting closer and more ominous. He looked back at the man, "Marcus?"

Wrap, shift, ground-- rinse, repeat.

The EarthForce officer was not good at shelters, not good at working with her hands on anything but a ship's controls, but after weaving what seemed to her as her millionth frond through her thousandth bit of bamboo, she was getting it down. Sort of. Didn't mean that she enjoyed it, or rather, that she'd admit to enjoying it. In a way, it was relaxing.

"Marcus, do you have--" Her voice rose from the opposite side of the shelter as the storm began to gather itself. The wind was beginning to whip up as the cooler air presented itself. Suddenly, she was thankful for her jacket on her shoulders, moist with sweat as it might be.

She hadn't seen the Ranger drop to his knees, hadn't heard the plea... and simply raised her voice a little more. Perhaps he hadn't heard her?

"Marcus?" Torn between believing that the perpetual motion machine known as Marcus Cole found something more interesting and perhaps he was just going to start surprising her once more, a tentative smile came to her lips as she came around to look to see if she couldn't find him. What she did see, however, caused the smile that had some hope of growing to fall immediately, and left what it was she was doing.

John was there first, of course, though it wasn't more than a moment before Susan was as well, scanning for Stephen. Not here, that's right-- checking on the stasis pod. "We need someone." How could she think that he'd be okay after being in cryo? "Stephen..." She paused, truly hesitated, before continuing, "Scott..." If one wasn't available, perhaps the other was? She didn't think Dr. House would be able to help at all; 200 plus years was something to consider.

"Marcus, don't you dare..." She looked at John, her expression one of controlled concern, the air of calm radiating, the single word spoken to the other Commander. "Inside." The shelter she'd been working on wasn't done by any stretch, but there was a section that'd be some reasonable proof against the weather even as the first large drops began to fall.

John looked up at her from where he was crouched beside Marcus, a hand resting lightly on the man's hunched shoulders. He gave Ivanova a small nod and shifted, draping one of Marcus' arms across his shoulders. His sunburn hurt like a bitch thanks to the material on Marcus' robe, but he grit his teeth against it and hauled the man to his feet. "Come on, Marcus," he said with a grunt as he started to walk with him, one arm bracing around the man's waist as he gripped the arm slung over his shoulder. "The Commander wants us to go inside so inside is where we're going to go. You don't argue with woman and you don't argue with commanders, and it's double so when the commander is a woman"

He walked with Marcus across the sand as the wind started to pick up, throwing small bits of sand into the air as fat rain drops started to fall. He looked at the shelter Ivanova had been constructing and then over at her. "Mine isn't that much further, Aeryn won't mind and it has a roof. Come on"

One of the advantages of having gone hiking through the jungle in a T-shirt and swimming trunks was the ease of cleaning up. Scott had split from the group on the way back to camp to dive into the "swimming hole" -- the section of stream used for bathing. Clouds were gathering, and Scott was looking forward to weathering the storm in the tepee with Ami.

Scott strode back into camp dripping wet, holding his rinse-out t-shirt in one hand. He was halfway to his and Ami's shelter when he thought he heard someone call his name. Scott stopped, listened, and lowered his shields. Alarm radiated from one of the shelters downwind. He jogged to it as rain started to fall. "Hey," he shouted ahead, "is everything all right?"

Crichton's head stuck out of the entrance of the finished shelter. "Scott! No. Something's wrong with Marcus."

(Who's Marcus?)

Ami supplied the answer with a mental image of a long haired, bearded man. Scott recognized him as the newcomer who'd been in the stasis pod. She asked, /What's wrong?/

/Dunno. Going to find out./

Scott hesitated at the entrance to the shelter as the rain started coming down in earnest. Commander "I don't like telepaths" Ivanova and John knelt beside Marcus, who was doubled over on the ground.

"How long has he been like this?" Scott asked. He was careful to keep his voice neutral. Ivanova reminded him of Ripley in many ways.

"Don't know," John supplied. "I heard him moan a minute ago and found him like this."

Scott nodded. He asked Ivanova, "Can I take a look at him?"

Simply a case of "shadow war syndrome"... :) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, because his brain still has a lot of processing to do it's hit him with the sound of thunder and the smell of Ozone. I'm doing a post right now for Aeryn and Marcus.
