Jack was more than willing to offer a friendly massage to spread suntan lotion.  Sure, there was a hint of sensuality, it was Jack, but it didn't really cross any line.

"You have very nice skin."  He commented as he worked ( Read more... )

"Scares me too," Martha admitted. The Doctor was the ultimate addiction, why else had she come back to his side with only a few words of what passed for apology from him for his callousness.

"You fared better than my Jack," Martha fussed around, spreading her jacket on the sand. "He spent decades, ten of 'em, I think, on earth just waiting for the Doctor to come back. Then the Doctor had to go and be a git when Jack caught up with us."

Her clouded vision of the past cleared with that last sentence. Saying it was as if a light went off over her head, illuminating everything. She hadn't been the only one suffering from the Doctor's Rose-withdrawl. "I don't know why either of us stayed on."

(Aside from being stuck and unable to pilot the TARDIS, not to mention not wanting to leave when we could have helped.)

"I would add that to my description of my Doctor." The jacket spread neatly, Martha leaned back on it on her elbows and crossed her legs at the ankles. "He's an insensitive git sometimes."

She watched Jack at work and smiled, "Are you sharing those back rubs all around, then? The day I've had? I could use one." Martha closed her eyes for a moment, tilting her head back and enjoying the feel of the warmth on her skin. When she opened them, she focused on Jack. "As far as what to talk about, I suppose we should go right to the most serious matters, first, yeah?

"Tell me, who's shagging who? Other than your Doctor and Rose?"

No matter when or where, there was always time for gossip.

Jack was just finishing up making Kenzaki a nicely limp puddle. He had never seen the guy so relaxed.

"Decades? Jeez, I decked him for the ten years. Tell me the other Jack at least got one good shot in." He grinned. "Course, I was weak and kissed him right after I knocked him on his ass."

"And insensitive seems a running theme. For a guy with strong sense of justice and save the world complex, he can be a jerk. He's so focused on the big picture he ignores the person right next to him needing help. I mean that fact that he NEVER stays around to help clean up the mess he leaves behind him says something."

Jack stood up and moved behind Martha this time. "If you're wearing a bra, off with the shirt. There's bikini's here with less than a bra to them." He might have no modesty, but some people were funny like that. "One massage coming up."

He still kept his eyes down the beach, aware of the positions of each newcomer. River had given him no reason to worry overmuch. But habits were hard to break.

"Gossip it is. Now see the guy down there with the kinda curly dark hair, his name is Scott..."

Jack proceeded to let her know who was sharing shelters with whom, who had found serious relationships and who had found casual ones. Himself included, but there was no bragging about it. It was a friendly thing going on, and the dynamic could shift at any time.

"The current pool is on Damon, the guy with the baby in the sling, and Claire, little baby Aaron's mother. I'm already out on that one. They're gonna give in eventually. The other one is on two people who aren't here right now. They've been gone a good portion of the morning, so maybe a payoff will come around soon."

Martha hesitated for a moment, modesty flaring, before agreeing to Jack's assessment. Martha owned a bikini or two with less coverage than her bra and knickers. She pulled the shirt over her head, then grabbed her hair off her neck. Martha listened to Jack's descriptions of the couples and non-couples, and hoped that her surprise, shock and embarrassment didn't show when he mentioned his liaisons.

(This is Jack. I shouldn't be surprised.)

She was impressed by the bloke who took up responsibility for a tot that wasn't even his. Martha also tried to pretend like she wasn't making mental notes of the available men. It had been ... too long since she had a nice snog, let alone a shag.

('Course, if you're really interested, all you need do is ask Jack, I'm sure.) She tabled that consideration for later, if they were here that long.

"'S'all it takes then? Share a shelter and start tongues wagging?" Martha asked.

The first touch of Jack's fingers was divine. Martha didn't know if it was because he knew what he was doing, because it'd been so long since she'd been touched in more than a friendly, platonic hug or some combination of both. Not that Jack was trying to seduce her - well, no more than Jack's existence was all about seduction - but the feeling of his hands on the bare skin of her shoulders did make her close her eyes and purr just a bit.

"It's not so much tongues wagging... okay so it is. But you live in a community with this few people, everyone gets to know everyone else. You kinda notice it people share a shelter, or start holding hands on the beach, or even disappear to the Love Nest. Or don't. We have had one or two incidents of some rather loud appreciation trying to be muffled." Jack knew she couldn't see his eyebrows wiggling.

Marth was another one with beautiful skin. Her complexion was amazing, and her coloring in the sun, gorgeous. He really tried to keep his massage on the friendly side. Even if he did occasionally push it. It's more than sharing a shelter. Some people can share and you can tell there's nothing going on, no matter how obvious it is they want to."

Enough in that vein.

"I'm thinking about making a three person raft or canoe and offering to expand my resume to officiator. I'm a captain, and either could be considered a boat." He chuckled.

"Is there a pool on marriages, or is it just shagging?" Martha asked with a giggle. Though I guess that if people really just couldn't wait for it, then it'd be handy to have someone perform some sort of ceremony.

"But waitaminute, you're a Captain right?" Martha tilted her head just enough to catch Jack's gaze out of the corner of her eye. "Doesn't your rank qualify you automatically?"

His fingers skirted the edges of platonic, but Martha didn't call him on it. It was Jack, she really would have been surprised by anything less. Not that she gave him a green light, but she didn't discourage him either.

"Nah. I don't think the idea that someone here could perform marriages even occured to them. Then there's the idea of looking forward to something. People here, for the most part have known each other only a month. When we escape, when we get back home, then plans like hat canbe made. To do it here, it smacks of defeat." Jack reasoned soundly as his thumbs kneaded the base of Martha's skull.

He looked over and noticed a very attractive man walking acrss the treeline towards them. "The views here just keep getting better and btter." He murmered.

The man's suit was just a bit rumpled, his tie was loose, and his hir ruffled in the breeze off the water. Slender, thin nose, oooh, freckles.

Jack caught the look the guy was giving him as he approached.

"Let me guess. This is Mr. Iconsiderate git himself." Jack leaned forward and murmered in Martha's ear. "Gotta admit, the ears and nose are quite an improvement. But does he ever eat?"

Martha couldn't explain it, but somehow she knew the Doctor was coming before Jack said it word. She likened it to how when she was a child, her mum always knew when she and her sister, Tish, were getting up to trouble. Some sort of mysterious sixth sense that Martha couldn't puzzle out.

"Let me guess. This is Mr. Inconsiderate git himself." Jack's breath tickled Martha's ear while his thumbs continued to work their magic on her skull. "Gotta admit, the ears and nose are quite an improvement. But does he ever eat?"

She giggled, not turning her head to look at the Doctor. She knew what brought that question on. Nine was a bit more muscular and filled out than her Doctor, but in Martha's opinion no where near as pretty. Not that she would ever tell the Doctor that. His ego was big enough. "He does, but I think that tea might be one of the four food groups. That and the hyperactivity, how could he possibly gain any weight?"

"I might have known. Don't you ever stop? Same old, same old, no matter what universe you're in?" the Doctor's voice rang out. The toes of two trainers, peeking out from beneath the hem of brown trousers, filled Martha's line of sight. "And you, Dr. Jones. Should be ashamed of yourself for encouraging him."

Martha slowly lifted her head to meet the Doctor's slightly impatient gaze. She wasn't cowed in the least, "Doctor, you made it to the beach at last. All done with the Time Lord reunion, then? Good to go for another hundred or so years?"

"Oh, you're funny, so very funny." The Doctor waved a hand at her, or maybe it was Jack, it was hard to tell from her angle. "Right then. Enough of the flirting, come on. People to meet, plans to make."

"It's only a back massage."

"With Jack, it's never only a back massage - and I say, are you sitting around in you knickers?" The impatient looked turned to one that was a cross between surprise and embarrassment. Whether the latter was directed toward her or for her sake, Martha couldn't tell.

"No, I'm sitting around in my brassiere. Now do stop ranting, be a sport and a good chap and say hello to Jack proper."

The Doctor drew a breath and released it, loudly and dramatically. "Hello, Jack. The other me couldn't fix your little problem either?"

"You should get a medal. He's still rude. I think he may actually be worse." Jack tilted his head.

"Question is, was he appricating the shirtlessness of you or me?" Jack arched a brow. "And it's hard to give a good massage through fabric you know. Old as you are, you had to have had a few massages. You could use one now. You're pretty uptight."

Yes, he was winding this new Doctor up. Butreally, he was actually being a bit of a ully to Martha.

"Doctor." Jack grinned up and leaned backletting his weight rest on his hands, behind him. That the pose showed off his naked toso to good advantage was just an added beniefit. "Not much opportunity to try. I followed his Tadis signal and got dropped off here, not quite realizing I'd be trapped too. Can't make a genetic sequence scanner out of coconuts and bananas, no matter what Gillagan's Island says."

Plus, he hadn't ben exactly forthcoming with the information, and HIS Doctor didn't know until a week ago.

"I take it you didn't make any progress then?" Jack gestured to Miho and Kenzaki. "Just massages, Doc. It's a vacation day. Hard as we've ben working, a good massage is worth your weight in gold."

"And Martha was meeting people. She met me, Miho and Kenzaki. How many have you met so far?" Jack was at his cheekiest now.

"And who are you?" Kenzaki asked, finally rousing himself to do something more than relax. He hadn't been relaxed for a long while, apparently.

He was drowsy, which meant that he possibly needed to go off and eat. But first he'd find out who this person was. Not that Jakku-san and the new one, Maasa-san, couldn't handle him, but it was a good idea to ask anyway.

"Kenzaki, this is the Dotor, version 10. He doesn't age, so much as get an entire body makeover." Jack explained.

"This on is from an alternate reality, evidently. Like the Evil Daniel Jackson. Only not so much evil. Just rude. Didn't even introduce himself before he started bullying pretty ladies."

Jack, cheeky as always, even if he was an alternate version. It brought a smile to the Doctor's face. Particularly when the Doctor realized that Jack was trying to wind him up.

He really was as unobservant or daft as people believed him to be. He just chose to ignore things he didn't wish to deal with, or dance around them until he had a proper perspective to deal with them in. For example, he didn't miss the slight fall of Martha's face and the warning that flashed in her dark eyes when he mentioned Jack's "problem."

The Doctor was also well aware that he was likely to receive quite a tongue lashing later from one Doctor Jones for his greeting and behavior. He'd ignore her, of course, as best he could, unless she resorted to silent treatment again.

(I really hate it when she doesn't talk to me.) If he wasn't careful, she'd have him apologizing to half the people he encountered, even if he really hadn't done anything to offend.

Letting Martha walk out of the TARDIS had been the best worst thing to happen to her.

The smile turned slightly sympathetic, the Doctor dialing back his impatience a bit, "No solution just yet, but it hasn't slowed you down, not in any universe, I see."

Martha smiled at the young man who'd asked the question. "You have to excuse him, he's not usually like this. He's just caught up in being here and our next big adventure. Gets ahead of himself, he does."

"Oh fine," The Doctor pulled a face and then thrust his hand out. "Hello there, I'm the Doctor, same man, new vintage, and you've already met my assistant, Dr. Martha Jones." As expected, Kenzaki and Miho shook hands with him, looking a bit surprised and confused. "I'm from an alternate future. Call it an upgrade."

Then he turned to Jack, "'Course I didn't introduce myself to you. You knew who I was. I could hear the two of you whispering. What exactly did you expect, Jack, a hug and a kiss?"

"What exactly did you expect, Jack, a hug and a kiss?"

"Well a guy could dream, can't he?" Jack stood up and started to brush the sand off. It looked like the party was moving down the beach anyway. "I'm not so sure this is an upgrade or just a new casing. I'll have to see."

Gesturing down the beach Jack indicated his Doctor, talking to the blonde woman Jack had evidently pegged correctly as the other Time Lord. "I see you met yourself. How's that working out for you?"

Jack looked at Martha and winked. "The best revenge you can get on someone is to make them deal with themselves for a while. It'll drive them mad."

"And I have got to meet her. I think more of those introductions are in order, Doctor." Jack nodded towards Romana.

When Martha started to hit the Doctor, Miho had gone on the defensive, watching like a hawk for any other sign of aggression.

However, Jack's reactions were not an indicator of problems. Miho was willing to shake the Doctor's hand, but couldn't get it out of her head how WIERD this was.

"I'm pleased to meet you." she said as she smiled shyly to Martha.

Other than that, she was in "guard mode", ready to defend her friends, if they need it.
