Paul liked Colonel Sam Carter. She possessed many of humans' best qualities in spades: curiosity, creativity, intelligence, and adaptability. He hoped that the Air Force would be true to its word. Paul and Carter could learn much from each other.

After considering her questions Paul replied, "Yes, you could witness the meeting." He widened his gaze to include the others. "Any of you. You don't have to be telepathic, just touching me. Scott and I are... 'in phase,' so to speak, with the shared space in the energy dome." He turned back to Sam, who was now bristling with curiosity. "Telepathy, phase shifting, and frequency resonance are necessary on both sides. If we have time we can discuss the concepts, some of which you may be familiar with already. But I won't explain exactly how this works. I will not be responsible for the development of a weapon."

O'Neill snorted and sat up straight. "Hey now, just a minute! I--"

Paul met O'Neill's indignant gaze calmly. "You may not. Sam may not. But other humans certainly would. Perhaps others in the Air Force. It was your branch of the military that shot my craft down."

OOC: Paul's not being preachy or condescending, just matter-of-fact.

Sam listened intently to the concepts in play for the co-locator, and she nodded slowly, a flickering glance given to the general before she returns her attention to Paul. "Even if I understood how it worked, there wouldn't be anyone that I know of, outside present company of course, that would begin to be able to use it. It'd take a genetic coding that is just not present in a segment of population; and while genetic engineering can do many things, I'm thinking that it'd be a dead end." No sour grapes there, actually. The scientist is merely pointing out that there'd really be no chance, even if she'd learned all about the application... for the benefit of both of the men.

Sure, she might be able to jerry-rig something; not that she hasn't before, but as a viable product for the defense of Earth? Not all alien technology.. works that way.

She smiled brightly, however, at the possibility of discussing the concepts and theories behind the co-locator, however, and exactly how and why it can not only cross space but time as well. Space, she can pretty much imagine... time, however-- that was a completely different matter.

"Now.. is there a limit to a time frame? A year? Two? Or does it work on a pure quantum level?" Where time has no direction to its flow, rather, it is everywhere and nowhere, waiting to be observed. "Which..." Sam began slowly, working her way through the complex theories, which sounded a little easier, with her experience of having to explain things to Jack.. "means that it wouldn't necessarily have to have all that much powering it, but rather..." Yes. The two operators needed to be in phase.

"That makes sense."

Sam twisted around to Jack once again, blue eyes gleaming. Oh, definitely her 'happy place'. "See, sir.. it builds off the quantum theory that time in the universe is subjective and that, without observation, the dynamics of the multiverse are reversible. It's only us that turns it into a one-dimensional time continuum..."
