"Congradulations, you two." Rose moved to hug Ami, then Scott. "I'm so happy for you. Jack said you were really romantic." She nudged Scott's arm.
Rose had to grin at Chloe's choice in swimwear when she and Jack came in.
"You are a hell of a lot braver than I am, Chloe. I don't think I'd ever dare to wear that for fear it's decide to get a glitch on me. Besides that, prior times in the pool, I'd have given the Doctor two heart attacks."
Jack laughed. "Maybe you'd have gotten him sooner if you did wear it. Not that I've ever actually seen the Doc in the pool area."
Rose waved at Marcus. "Hello. Food's there, and I think that one pitcher is beer. No ice, sorry. But the water's warm. Any one have any music requests? I can just set it for top tens from 1994 to 2004 if you don't have an album or style preferance." Rose moved to a panel in the wall by the table of food.
Rose lay a hand on Kenzaki's shoulder. "Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable? Maybe if you start having fun you'll be able to ignore the wiggin' out from the TARDIS."
Chloe's smile didn't dim but she suspected her eyes widened a little. "Now you tell me," she said to Rose, giving Jack a brief glance.
"That hadn't occurred to me! And this one," Chloe added, nudging Jack, "would no doubt keep his mouth shut and enjoy the view." She looked at Rose, then at Ami. "So I'm counting on you two to let me know if my swimsuit...slips."
Marcus smothered a grin at Chloe's comments. She wasn't on his radar and he didn't want to give the wrong signals.
Instead, he moved to a seat near the refreshments and placed his towel there, before looking at the various beverages. Helping himself to a long glass of orange juice, which didn't even faintly smell of alcohol, he sipped it cautiously, then moved to sit down and just enjoy being in a social situation where he didn't need to be even vaguely on his guard. Although, folded in his towel, just in case, was his denn'bok.
Not that he thought he needed it, but it was a very special thing to him and he couldn't just leave it.
"It's just my paranoia, really. I doubt it would be in the wardrobe if it was a risk. But my nerves can't agree with my brain there." Rose reassured Chloe.
Hearing no music preferences, she programmed random soft pop.
"Scott asked about a net and ball? The other side of the pool, the wall panel with the circular geometric designs on it, it's a cupboard. Just push on it and it'll open. Floatation devices and pool toys are in there. And no, I don't know where the giant rubber ducky came from. I can't get a clear answer on that one."
The damn thing was four feet tall, and took up the space of four swimmers. Not that it mattered in this pool, but still... why did he even have it?
Since no one was moving to the pool, Rose decided to be the first in. She moved to the edge and dove in.
Surfacing she splashed water at Ami and Scott, who were closest.
"Come on. What's the use of a pool party if no one gets in the pool?"
Kenzaki smiled tentatively. He was glad that Rozu-san was taking it as being overawed by the TARDIS; he couldn't very well explain what he wasn't sure of himself. He slipped into the pool, shivering a bit at the cool water.
Chloe grinned at Jack and then dived into the pool, following Rose's lead. The water was cool and nice change from swimming in the ocean. Swimming in the surf was fun, but a nice, placid freshwater pool had its advantages as well.
She swam as far she could before she had to pop up to the surface to draw a breath. It was a large pool. Chloe rolled onto her back and started doing a lazy backstroke. "Come on in," she said, "the water's fine! And Rose is right--this is a pool party, so get in the pool!"
Marcus sipped at the Orange Juice, cradling it in his hands as if it were gold dust. Considering how rare it is, in space, to find fresh orange juice, he knew it's value. He took a long draught, then with a satisfied sigh watched the others swimming, a smile on his face. There was so much happiness here, just right for basking. But while Marcus could swim, and swim very well, he would much rather just savour the juice and the atmosphere. For now.
Jack let out a whoop and ran to the pool, cannonballing in between Rose and Chloe, going for maximum splash.
He came back up only to feel a sudden weight on his back shoving him back under before pushing off, so as not to hold him down. And as Chloe had been in front of him at the time...
He spun and grabbed Rose by the knees, giving her two seconds before yanking her under and letting go.
Now if only they had River here he'd have both little 'sisters' to torment.
He popped back up out of immediate range.
"Is Scott getting Ernie out?" Jack shook his head to clear his eyes.
"No, I just warned him the thing was in there. No one expects to face a giant rubber duck when you step into the closet." Rose was grinning already.
Chloe moved quietly around to her left, circling so that she and Rose were bracketing Jack. The way Jack's eyes flickered in her direction once or twice, Chloe knew she wasn't fooling anyone. But so what?
She met Rose's gaze past Jack. "Get him!" she shouted, and launched herself at Jack.
Kenzaki smiled a little, but even where he should be enjoying himself, he couldn't quite do it.
He felt empty - as if something was missing, or just barely there. To top it off, he felt like he was developing a headache... something he hadn't done since he became an Undead.
And what medications would work on him? He'd fed Hajime human medicine, but he'd never known if the recovery had been due to the medications or Hajime's own nature. And he wasn't sure he wanted to know what could kill him, even temporarily.
"Ernie" was easily the biggest rubber duckie Scott had ever seen. Having grown up watching Sesame Street he got the reference. This Ernie certainly was number one.
Scott tossed the oversized floating waterfoul into the pool as Chloe and Rose attacked Jack. Ami seemed torn between joining the impromptu game of dunk the Jack and ogling Scott. The latter made Scott grin.
Everyone was having fun except Kenzaki and Marcus. That wasn't quite true; Marcus seemed content. Content wasn't good enough for a pool party, though. To draw them in Scott called, "Who's up for a game of 'King of the Ernie'?" Then he dove into the just warm enough water and climbed onto the giant floating duck. "It's good to be the king!"
Kenzaki smiled wanly at Sukotto-san's antics. Everybody in the pool was having fun, but he didn't feel up to it.
He pulled himself out of the pool unsteadily, getting to his feet. Suddenly the room turned dim and he felt himself falling. "Hajime," he heard himself saying before things went dark.
(OOC: Kenzaki's straining himself to maintain unconscious contact with "his kind" - that is, Hajime and the Sealing Stone, on top of feeling queasy about the strained contact. So he went and collapsed. Probably bleeding nice and green too.)
Scott kept an eye on Kenzaki even as Ami tried to knock him off of his prized steed. Thanks to his and Ami's link she felt and shared his concern.
Stoic Kenzaki climbing out of the pool was a sure sign that something was wrong. Scott slid off of Ernie into the water. By the time he surfaced Kenzaki was sprawled on the concrete floor, unconscious. Bright green blood oozed from a gash on his scalp.
Jack was already kneeling before Kenzaki checking vitals. The others, including Scott, clambered out of the pool after him. "His breathing and heartbeat are steady," Jack reported. Then he looked at Scott expectantly.
Scott kneeled on Kenzaki's other side. He opened one of the young man's eyes, noting the dilated pupil as he processed the information conveyed through touch. Scott wished he'd taken time to learn more about Kenzaki's physiology when he'd had the chance. Now he was at a loss.
Kenzaki was still human enough for Scott to tell that he wasn't greviously injured. "He's weak," Scott stated. "I think we can move him." As Scott rolled Kenzaki on to his back he noticed that the cut on Kenzaki's scalp was no longer bleeding. Scott nodded at it. "That's a good sign."
"Let's get him to the infirmary," Jack said. The soldier slipped his arms under Kenzaki's while Scott lifted his legs. They dripped their way to the infirmary.
The orange and towel were left behind and Marcus was there, helping Scott and John. "Thinking about it," he ventured with a quiet authority. "You know, it might be better to get him to the console room."
He prided himself on being a good judge of character and ever since they'd arrived Kenzaki had only appeared to be SLIGHTLY less uncomfortable in the console room. "It's a psychic thing, I think."
The procession halted after Marcus made his suggestion. "He's been uneasy ever since entering the TARDIS," Ami observed.
Scott quickly checked Kenzaki's physical state. He hadn't worsened, but he hadn't improved either. Scott nodded in the direction of the console room. "Can't hurt."
The group carried Kenzaki to the console room. Suddenly Rose giggled. "The TARDIS forgives you for dripping on her."
Everyone but Jack looked at her askance. "Um, good?" Scott responded. Although he could feel the ship's presence, it was still strange know that "she" -- as the Doctors, Rose, and Jack called the TARDIS -- was alive.
They were about to lie Kenzaki on the floor when his eyes began to flutter. "He's improving," Scott said. "Let's get him outside." Rose opened the door, letting in bright sunshine.
