The sound of water trickled through the large cave that Radek had sequestered himself in for nearly five days. Added to that the creak, creak, creaking of a bamboo water wheel and the cave felt noisy.
The only reaction to the crashing of Frank's pod had been for Radek to glance up from his papers, illuminated by candle light, push his glasses up his nose, sniff and then turn back to his calculations.
Attached to the turbine of the water wheel, cables and pipes ran to the stone bench that Radek was working at. It wasn't exactly a lab, per se, but it was dry. With a soft muttering, he moved from the bench and looked at a rudimentary guage, tapping it with his nail to ensure the reading was correct.
He then moved to the cables that dangled down into the natural lake at the bottom of the internal water fall, carefully putting his hand near the warm water there. Yes, it was a constant temperature. Shielded cables and transducers were ready now, so he moved back to the bench. Glancing at the volt meter, he smiled, then flicked a switch.
Three lightbulbs, rescued from the mess of the bunker, flickered, burned for a second, flickered off, then came back on again, with a faint hum in the background. "YES!" he yelled, punching the air in glee.
Now what? He glanced around, suddenly aware that noone else had been here to witness his moment of glory! With a sigh, he flicked off the switch, covered the exposed parts of the circuitry with a tarp, then moved out of the cave and headed for the camp. Either the Doctor, Rodney or maybe even Daniel should know about this...
