Alanna came into the clinic, Faithful on her shoulder and something bulky in her bag.

He wandered back in to the clinic after a failed search to find Geoff. Cash was at the shop in town, so not with him. He has a distant look, a darkness in his eyes.

"Alanna. Faithful." He nodded respectively.

"Dr. House, is it true that you're leaving?" Alanna put her bag down on an empty chair.

House nodded. "It is. I'm sorry, Alanna. I've been wanting to tell you, and Lisa too. I resigned the position on Monday, tomorrow is my last day."

Alanna bit down on her lower lip. "Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. Um, I really liked working with you are you sure you can't stay?"

House pushed a hand through his hair and rubbed the back of his neck. A trick he'd learned form Wilson.

"I'm sorry, Alanna." His eyes were a bright, intense blue. "I know it seems sudden, but I've been working up to it for a while. I need to step back, get some things in order."

Alanna nodded. "I get that." She bounced up and down, unsure of what to do. On the one hand, boys don't hug, on the other, she's a girl.

He'd never been a particularly touchy sort, but he understood sometimes a hug was just the right thing to do. He stood, and put his arms out. Because Alanna was someone he cared about, someone he'd cared about from the moment he met her. He respected her and he cared what what happened to her.

Alanna hugged Dr. House while Faithful nimbly jumped out of the way.

House reached over to give Faithful a firm stroke.

"Do you know if Lisa will be aorund? I'm sure she's heard, but I'd like to tell her myself."

Faithful purred and flicked his tongue out to lick Dr. House's palm.

Alanna shrugged. "I don't know, I guess she'll stop by."

"I guess I'll have to seek her out, if she doesn't." House shrugged. "You'll ave to keep in touch, let me know if those pencils ever fall from the ceiling." He looked up at the collection.

Alanna laughed. "I'll be sure to do that." She suddenly shook her head. "I'll miss you, it's not fair." She pouted.

"Hey, we had a good run. You'll be fine. I'm sure you can continue working the clinic, if you want to. Show the new guy around when they hire someone."

He pulled her in to another hug. "It's going to be fine, Alanna. You'll see."
