Wilson had been up late waiting for a call from House and up early waiting for a call from House, spending almost an hour on the phone each time trading the rapid fire medical jargon relating to Dorothy House's condition and then calming House down. Sometimes by coddling him, sometimes by being firm with him and not for the first time Wilson

"We are, actually. Home to Vegas for a week or so," he said with a peculiar smile. It was odd to describe Vegas as home, as he never truly set down roots there when he was a full-time resident. But it seemed somewhat appropriate now. "And then a few days in San Francisco after the New Year."
"And yourself? Are you going to be able to get away from the Clinic?"

"'We' Dr. Grissom? Is the lovely Miss Sidle joining you then?"
Items in hand, he turned and nodded for Gris to make himself comfortable as he gave a gentle shrug.
"Actually, I don't know. House's mother had a heart attack a couple of days ago and he flew out to be with her. I might suggest he stay there over the holidays, I know he'll want to anyway in which case I'll stay here and hold down the fort."

At Wilson's revelation, Grissom looked quite solemn.
"I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure that if Dr. House is there with his mother, however, she is receiving the best medical care possible, and it helps to be with those you love," he said, trying to be reassuring. He rolled up his sleeve and continued, a little awkwardly. He'd grown to like and respect Wilson, and felt comfortable with him, and he had true sympathy for him.
"If there's anything I can do..." he trailed off, realizing most students would be a little creeped out having an ex-coroner fix their boo-boos for an afternoon. "I do have a 30 Year Old Laphroiag sitting around getting dusty."

He straightened and set up the bag, then started the chemo. Smiling at Grissom, who's quiet and sometimes quirky company he enjoyed, Wilson walked over to make some notes, actually going as far as to hop up on the counter, sitting down while he wrote.
"It is a shame for good Laphroiag to be sitting around gathering dust, Dr. Grissom." Wilson scolding with a twinkle in his dark eyes. "But thank you for the offer, it should hopefully be quiet enough around here for me to handle everything. Ah...but I should ask, do you have a physician I can contact and run over your notes with so that you don't miss a couple weeks of therapy. I know it's probably tempting but your blood work from two weeks ago was...fantastic. I'd hate to lose any ground."

"We'll be back from San Francisco in time for classes to resume, so my only concern is next week, the 23rd. I'm concerned about my ability to fly right after a treatment."

Wilson paused and pursed his lips, nodding towards Grissom understandingly.
"Can you move your appointment up a day? Come in on the 22nd or even the 21st? Though the 22nd would be preferrable."
Reply
"The 22nd would probably be better for both of us. Thank you."
