Wilson was whistling, and yes he had a damn good reason to be whistling thankyouverymuch, as he set about opening up the Clinic for the day ( Read more... )

Stepping into the clinic and looking around hesitantly, Geoff spots the doctor who had been on call the night before. He walks over and clears his throat.

"Ah, excuse me?"

Wilson surfaced from the cabinet he was in, hair slightly mused from his burrowings but a ready smile on his face.

"Good morning! What can I do for you?"

"Actually, I just wanted to stop in and say thank you for the help you gave Ten the other night. Also I think I was a little rude, not introducing myself when I was here, so I thought I'd remedy that as well." He offers his hand. "Geoff Chaucer. I teach here at the school."

There was a momentary blink and then Wilson's smile widened and he reached to take Chaucer's hand.

"Dr. James Wilson and for the former, I'm just glad he was willing to come here and get treated, as for the latter, I understand how nerve racking it can be when a friend is in hospital, certain social niceties tend to take a back seat. But, Professor Chaucer, I have heard of you and it's a pleasure to have a face to go with the name."

"Call me Geoff, please. And I'm not certain that coming here was really Ten's choice, but I doubt he had much say in the matter." He returns Wilson's grin.

"I'm starting to become concerned about what sort of reputation I have around here, that people say they've heard of me. Although I suppose the gossip mill is pretty active in such a small community."

Laughing, goodnaturedly, Wilson slid his hands into the pockets of his slacks and leaned back against the cabinet he had been burrowing about in.

"Well all I've ever heard has been positive rumor mill type of stuff. That you are a poet extrodinaire, a loving man and a good friend." Wilson grinned, dark eyes twinkling. "Okay, that last bit would be my personal addition to the mill, since it takes a good friend to stay the night and sleep on those gawd awful chairs we keep in the rooms."

"He wasn't in the sort of place, in his mind, that he should have been left alone. I'd like to think he'd do the same for me." Geoff perches on the edge of the desk, smiling. "Although I will have to say I've had enough of sleeping in chairs for a while."

"I can imagine." Wilson said a little ruefully, thinking of the nights he'd spent in similiar chairs trying to keep House from doing something incredibly stupid just after the infarcation.

Dark eyes came back up to Chaucer's face and Wilson's smile softened. "It was a good thing, that you did in being there. I don't know everything that happened and probably I don't need to know but you're right, he shouldn't have been alone and...I don't think my company would have been appreciated."

Wilson said the last in a tone that indicated he understood that Ten wouldn't have meant it personally against Wilson but rather against who Wilson was.

Geoff smiles his appreciation at the man's willingness to be circumspect. "I'm not completely sure what happened, myself. As far as Ten's reticence in being here, though -- he told me he had a horrifying experience in a hospital once, and it's colored his perception of physicians ever since." He shrugs and grins. "Plus, he's a stubborn cuss who has to be bullied sometimes to accept help."

Wilson winced and inwardly cursed the incompetant members of his profession who unwittingly made matters worse down the line. It was a gripe that he and House happened to share and were both unpopularly vocal about at times.

"Well, as I told him when I sprang him yesterday, I'm glad that for whatever reason, be it bullying or common sense, he did come in to get checked out and treated."

There was a minor pause and then, in a careful tone. "Though, all we could do was support the physical...hopefully he'll not be so stubborn about sorting out the emotional wounds."

Geoff's wry smile indicates that he's fairly certain the emotional recovery will encounter the same level of obstinance. "Oh, I imagine he'll try, but his friends don't intend to let him."

Offering his hand again, he says, "I'll let you get back to your work, doctor. It's been a pleasure meeting you, and I want to say again how much I -- we all appreciate your help."

Taking the hand for another shake, Wilson smiled and nodded.

"Indeed and I hope to get to hear some of your poetry some time, Professor Chaucer. Have a good day and...err..good luck."

He winked with a hint of a blush and then turned to burrow back in the cabinet.

Giving Wilson a nod and roguish grin before he turns away, Geoff says, "A good day to you too, doctor."

He stops in the doorway just as leaving and adds over his shoulder, "Come by the gathering in the park this evening. I promised Professor Macaly I'd do some storytelling."
