FTEC, Wednesday Night

Life was slowly beginning to return to normal. She still had nightmares, was still troubled by what she did, but the reality of the situation was she couldn't take it back. Nick had already seen to it that the child affected by this would have an education fund, and would be well taken care of. It was a small price to pay, she thought, for what she had taken away...one that she should have paid herself. Nick, however, insisted. He understood far too well the guilt she carried with her as a constant companion these days. The sting would lessen over time, he told her, even if it would never go away.

As she settled in to the desk with her laptop and her lab journal, Natalie wondered darkly whether or not she would ever find a cure. Even if she did, she still wasn't sure she'd ever find penance for her crime.

[She's not really melancholy, just a tad...reflective. Really. =) ]
