Last night she had snapped a picture of Poe with her polaroid camera; taking this from her pocketbook, she taped it to Cally's monitor, out of the way, but still visible to her if she woke. It was a cute picture. Poe's face was pressed against his cage and his little beady eyes were staring directly into the camera.
Looking down at Cally, Annette whispered, "Get well soon, Cally. I'll try to come back again this evening." She smoothed her hand over her arm and then left.

He gave her hand a small squeeze before leaving again to get back to work.

"You're getting good at freaking people out, you know?" he said after a while, hovering near the foot of her bed. "I let Veronica know what happened and she's going to come and visit so you better be awake by then."
He walked to the side and reached over, carefully squeezing her hand. "I'll talk to you soon," he promised before slipping out of the room again.

She rubbed her fingers across the back of Cally's hand gently. "If you want brownies, you better wake up soon," she warned. Subtle bribery might work, you never knew. "I'll eat them all without you otherwise."

She stared for a second, then grinned huffing a laugh in relief and shook her head. "Nuh-uh." Mac stifled the urge just to reach over and hug her, for the sake of Cally's bruises. She squeezed the hand beside her, though. "Hearing your voice, has officially become the best part of today," she said.
