FTEC, Monday Morning, September 11

Sep 11, 2006 15:40

Trevor had made the mistake of attempting one of the Sudoku puzzles that was in the newspaper, and was now finding himself quite addicted to them. At least they were cheaper than alcohol, and were easy to stash at the front desk.

River had resorted to reciting Volume A of her Children's Encyclopedia by heart. At least it kept her mind from excesses of disturbing thoughts.

[ooc: Visitors welcome! Don't expect River to be completely coherent though.]

Buffy knocked on the door. She was still moping, but being a good roomie was more important than boys. And anyway, she couldn't disappoint Berthold. She clutched the small blanket in her hand.

"...is rounded to oval, with two to three whorls, and the last one..."

River looked up. "Buffy. Did I hurt you?"

River looked kind of like Buffy was feeling, except maybe slightly more on the crazy side. She smiled and shook her head. "I wasn't there. Um. Sorry. Um." She walked closer and held out the blanket. "Um. From Berthold."

River took the blanket and hugged it. "But Berthold will miss it. He can't go out now."

Buffy nodded. "I know, so I let him borrow a pillowcase. Which isn't the same, but he was really insistent about giving you the blanket so..."

She trailed off and looked around the room, shuddering ever so slightly. It wasn't quite a hospital, but it was still creepy.

"Are you coming back to the room soon or do you need to stay here?"

"I can kill people." She looked up at Buffy with pleading eyes, her hands clutching the blanket. "Don't want to."

Buffy paused, then her face softened. "I can too. It's really easy, isn't it?"

"Yes. Too easy. Can't control it." She pulled the blanket over her head. "I hurt people."

"Maybe you can, like, learn not too?" Buffy suggested. She fully agreed that hurting people was bad. The fact that River could kill people wasn't really as surprising as it probably should have been. Buffy blamed fandom. "...You're sure you're not a slayer, right?"

"Being able to slay doesn't make one a slayer," River said. Not like Buffy was one anyway.

"Made me like this. Messed with my head." She put her hands over her ears. "Not working right. Even Simon doesn't know what to do."

Buffy frowned. "Who messed with your head?"

"And I thought my old school was bad." Buffy blinked. She smiled suddenly. "This school is good though! It can make you better!"

"If I don't hurt people," River said gloomily.
