Tommy did a quick check on all the patients - that Tyler kid still wasn't looking good, but comparatively speaking he was starting to look better - and then settled down at his desk to do the very important job of reading the sports section.

Sometime after lunch, Veronica showed up at the clinic. She marched right up to Tommy's desk, her expression clearly determined.

"You're in charge of this place, right?"

Veronica wordlessly hands him a piece of paper with contact information for the women who maintain the sanctuary spell at Caritas.

Tommy looked at it. "Sweetheart, nice as it is to give me the name and number for your sorority, I prefer girls who aren't jailbait."

"That's the number for the women who maintain the sanctuary spell on Caritas, where I work," Veronica explained. "You need to call them and arrange for them to come and cast the spell here."

"I don't know if you're aware of this, but the girl in exam room one? Is there because of the people in exam rooms three and four," Veronica said. "They were possessed and they beat the shit out of her. That girl is like a sister to me and I'll be damned if her recovery will be impeded because she doesn't feel one hundred percent safe in this clinic!"

Veronica rolled her eyes. "Guns aren't going to stop most of the things that tend to attack in this town," she said. "It's hard to kill something that's already dead."

"Tell me about it," Tommy said. He waved in the direction of where Lilly's bed had been. "Apparently we try to keep them alive. Unalive. Whatever the fuck."

"So it's really in your best interests to call these women and protect your clinic, don't you think?" Veronica asked. "After all, you wouldn't want to face a lawsuit because some kid got killed on your watch and you couldn't stop it, would you?"

"Kid," Tommy said, "it is in my best interest to make sure everybody in this clinic comes out healthy, whatever definition of healthy applies. That means I'm not spending any money on any frilly fancy-pants, bullshit, crystal-loving, so-called magic, okay?"

"What if I can call in a favor and get it done without any cost to you?" Veronica asked. She really didn't want to have to take that route, but if that's what it took, she would.
