heart to heart and hand to hand )
You had me all teary. I feel like a sentimental sop at all of that. Although, when he promised himself "It’s not a lie, he promises himself, it’s not. Because he will. Every moment from now on, he is going to cherish and treasure. He will make sure she knows" it had me thinking, yeah, but she still has to live through those 200 years of meetings when she knew she was his wife and he didn't know. Which just made me yell, "MOFFAT!"
Fortunately, this Doctor in particular is always lovable, even when he's impossible. And I think River is someone who enjoys the chase anyway.
But, yeah, I totally agree that he'd feel she was something very special and I loved this line - "“maybe I was made for you too, River. You’re just very, very late.”
Ha! Yes. Serves him right, since he's never on time either. :D
Lovely lovely story. And I appreciate how they both affirmed they didn't belong to each other, they didn't own each other, but they offered and wanted to be with each other. It wasn't a matter of one taking the other, but of each offering themselves. Which is a small but significant difference.
And I like how even though she's very young here, she's still River. That what he sees when he looks at her is not young River or mature River, but simply his wife. All in one.
I think this is one of my favorite romances in all of fiction. Perhaps because it's so hard, they work so hard at it, it's bittersweet, but at the same time, they take such intense joy in it.
It just makes me love them each more.
Good job on you for capturing that. Not just in this story, but in all of your stories.
