Author's note: It's a short one, about 250 words, as I am particularly uninspired these days. For the Emperor challenge at fandom_arcana:
"He is direct, guileless and all too often irresistible. Unfortunately, like a baby he can also be a tyrant. Impatient, demanding, controlling. In the best of circumstances, he signifies the leader that everyone wants to follow, sitting on a throne that indicates the solid foundation of an Empire he created, loves and rules with intelligence and enthusiasm. But that throne can also be a trap, a responsibility that has the Emperor feeling restless, bored and discontent."

"Only when reversed does the Emperor become bigoted and egotistical, refusing to compromise, and insisting that he is right at all costs. Thus upright we find the authoritative director, the approachable parent and the natural leader: while reversed we come across stubbornness, egotism and tyranny."*

When Paul touches her, he thinks of her abductor. With each stroke of his fingertips, he follows the scars he can't see. He traces the ridged marks he can almost feel when he closes his eyes. She goes stiff and still when he touches them with his tongue, fingers clenching around the sheet. He knows it must feel like a burn, a brand, and still she makes no sound.

Her bravery moves him, the way she keeps her steely eyes fixed on his as he moves on top of her. It doesn't surprise him that she can't come, though he does his best, thrusting rhythmically inside her, long past the point where Karen would quiver and moan and urge him to finish. He moves as slowly as he can, wondering if this is her first positive sexual experience. The thought inspires him, and he holds out a bit longer before he comes.

She appears unmoved as he rolls off of her, just sits up and begins putting her clothes back on. She takes a hairbrush from her purse and sits on the edge of the bed.

"Rebecca..." She doesn't respond, and sadness for her pain overcomes him. He puts his hand on her shoulder and she jerks away. He wonders if that's something her abductor used to do, hard fingers like an eagle's talons on her back. "You don't need these defenses. It's me. You know me."

She turns her head and looks at him, starting to smile.

"Go home to your wife, Paul."

And she starts to laugh.

* Tell me you could read that and not immediately think of Paul!
