Challenge #16: The Emperor
Masculine symbol of intellectual Might
-- Traditional Meaning -- The Emperor is a father with strength, authority, influence, and energy who is successful and can help you. He is logical, entrepreneurial and his appearance in a spread can indicate success in a venture. This card can represent a married man or a patriarchal figure of any age.
-- Just as
the Empress in a spread for a man can indicate his feminie side, the Emperor in a spread can represent a woman's masculine side or this card may warn of an inner imbalance between your material and spritual parts. It can suggest an overly controlling nature, a need for a somber attitude, for decisive action, or for creativity combined with organizational and analytical ability.
-- "He is direct, guileless and all too often irresistible. Unfortunately, like a baby he can also be a tyrant. Impatient, demanding, controlling. In the best of circumstances, he signifies the leader that everyone wants to follow, sitting on a throne that indicates the solid foundation of an Empire he created, loves and rules with intelligence and enthusiasm. But that throne can also be a trap, a responsibility that has the Emperor feeling restless, bored and discontent."

-- "Only when reversed does the Emperor become bigoted and egotistical, refusing to compromise, and insisting that he is right at all costs. Thus upright we find the authoritative director, the approachable parent and the natural leader: while reversed we come across stubbornness, egotism and tyranny."
