Okay LJ, this is where you help me out. This is where I vent to you and you're supposed to diffuse my anger and frustration with the world

first of all, i am a firm believer that hypocrisy is not necessarily a negative quality. inconsistency is one of my favorite past-times.
secondly, i personally see no difference between an alcoholic with anger management issues murdering his wife, and the POTUS that authorizes the bombing of nations. murder is murder is murder. there are NO grey areas.
the variable here is emotion, and the inevitable conundrum of dealing with said emotion. the alcoholic's actions in our example are dictated by an overabundance of anger. the POTUS is tethered to the conspiracy of power.
now, having committed acts of violence, we either punish or reward the respective murderer. the alcoholic may face death, the very same outcome of his actions. was his life rich before the act he committed ? seemingly not. he probably suffered a great deal, how he chose to deal with that suffering lead him to acts of violence. is his suffering not great enough ? in the eyes of the vengeful, probably not. ultimately, the act of capital punishment (or any punishment for that matter) is a matter of entertainment. yes, PUNISHMENT IS ENTERTAINMENT. punishment diverts the attention of the vengeful from grief, to sadistic pleasure.
as for the punishment inflicted on a person of power who authorizes murder in the name of the state ? fame, or infamy if you will, is no less of a personal hell than addiction.
having said all of that, death is the NATURAL outcome of life. all creatures who fall under the notion of 'living' have the inalienable right to said life. however, is murder a natural death ? it is if you believe in predetermination, which is a major tenet of 'christianity'.
