Movers and Shakers

Consider me moved. This past weekend, with the help of some awesome friends, I got all my stuff into the new house. It has been affirmed that I am a hopeless packrat.

Weekend before last, I had one last gathering at the new apartment. This one went on until about 5am, shortly after Chad & Sizer ended up wearing my dresses. Of course alcohol was involved, but we have little else to explain how that happened. All in all, it was a nice way to say goodbye to the D-Lux apartment in the sky.

This move has brought about some interesting emotions. The house became available when Chris’s boss Judy recently had to take her parents out of it for fear of their increasing senility. When she showed us the house, with their possessions all still in place, we instantly fell in love with it. Judy’s father, P. Murff, designed and built the house in the 50’s and it’s got a very Frank Lloyd Wright thing going on. There’s also little gadgets and creative uses of space around every corner that just make me swoon. I hope I marry a man like P. Murff one day, or at least a man with P. Murff’s design sensibilities.

I attended the estate sale, which was weird enough. I have a hard enough time with estate sales, but I felt like I already knew these people. It was tough seeing all their possessions scattered & sifted through. The people who frequent these things (at least the swarm that did on this day) are crazy.

Judy’s parents have understandably had a hard time letting go of the home they built & raised their family in. I think now that they know that nice young adults who really appreciate the place are moving in, they’re finding more peace and acceptance with the transition.

Tonight we’re meeting them for dinner.
