The weekend Bear started getting sick was also the weekend I was gone to San Antonio. I just realized that with all of my guilt, stress & grief, I completely missed posting about the trip. It really was worthy of a post.
After work Friday, my grandmother and I drove to Ft. Worth to my mom’s. As usual, we talked almost the whole way. I love that we can talk about almost anything (excluding religion & politics & my wild side). The only break in the conversation was to brieflylisten to the Davis Sedaris audiobook I had just picked up from the library. WARNING. David Sedaris & Baptist grandmothers DO NOT mix well.
The next morning, my mother, my sister, grandmother & I drove to San Antonio. Our hotel (Hilton Palacio Del Rio) was directly on the Riverwalk & nice. We rode the tour of the river & shopped & visited the Alamo & ate the BEST Mexican food I’ve ever had at Rosario’s (highlight: getting my grandmother tipsy from one margarita). The next day, we went to Sea World & shopped more & ate at a fair Mexican restaurant on the Riverwalk. It was hot. Sunday morning, we toured two of the missions, Mission Concepción (1716) & Mission San Jose (1720). This was my favorite part of the trip. Both were way more impressive than the Alamo. And being Sunday morning, both were holding church services. I wouldn’t mind going to churches like this. We left there & headed to the Market, a sort-of Mexican version of Chinatown. Lots of wonderful cheap stuff. For lunch, more Mexican food of course. When I got news of Bear, we left abruptly.
This was the second trip us girls have been on together, and hopefully it won’t be our last. San Antonio’s a beautiful city. I’d like to go back sometime soon, but not when it’s so damn hot and crowded.
