:D Fic rec-ing for Kyouya/Tamaki: http://peroxide-fic.livejournal.com/154628.html and other ("lightly") Kyouya/Tamaki fics by this writer? Actually, I never really got into reading Ouran fics or into the fandom, even though I loved the series when I watched it. I only read these because she's a writer I watch from another series I like. About that fic I linked, the writer says she's out of practice with Ouran and doesn't remember the details - I have to confess it's been a while since I watched Ouran and I've forgottten much too XP but I enjoyed the idiocy of her Tamaki and coolness of her Kyouya (and have the impression of generally enjoying her other fics too).
Can I rec you to watch/read the anime/manga series One Piece by Oda Eiichiro? It's one of my all-time favourite series, withstood the test of time - it's been a few years since I started loving it and I'm still Loving it (which to me is quite a feat, because I find many long series tend to get boring or simply "not as nice as before" after a while, and my fangirl love gets snatched by another series that comes along, but OP has maintained it quality throughout, perhaps with some ocassional slow parts, but otherwise, it's all still good).
OP is a series that takes place in an age of pirates, focusing on a group of pirates - youths led by their dreams and a boy who wants to (and will) become the Pirate King - who journey across the most dangerous ocean, the Grand Line to achieve their dreams. I like it mainly for its characters and story (though it's originally targeted at young men/boys and has a good bit of action too). I have laughed at the crazy hilarity of the show, found it powerful enough to cry for some of the characters' backstories and at certain points, enjoyed the creativity of the settings of the various islands and places they visit, had my heart beating hard for the characters as they fought. The characters, I don't know, I think Oda's creativity shines in his characters as well. Half of them are idiots in their way, even the insanely strong ones, even the villains. In the perilous Grand Line, strength matters. And yet, the weaker ones are also able to fight on. If you like strong female characters, I think you'll also like Oda's women (few main ones though there are). They're rather different from the kind like Jane Roland (from what I gather from your description), certainly womanly, but well, let's just say that they are survivors who have managed, even on their own, to live in a world of pirates - mostly men, and dangerous men at that. Anyway, just wanting to spread the love~ :P
Thank you so much, for both the recs! They are always very much welcomed and appreciated :) I love it when people rec things, not just because it leads me to awesome stuff, but because I love reading people write about things that they hold dear.
I've not had a chance to look at the fic yet, but it's not an author whose fics I've tried, so I'm glad for a new place to look. And One Piece sounds right up my street - to be honest, you had me at pirates, but what you say about the setting and the characters really appeals. And I like the sound of the female characters, too - the representation of women is so often so awful that I've kind of taught myself to not let it stop me watching something (not sure that's really a good thing :/), but it really does make me happy when shows or books or w/e have awesome women in. So I will add it to my list!
