I am alive, I've just been going through a difficult and busy patch with my thesis lately. Anyway, as for the gay...hrm. It is and it isn't. Pretty much EVERYONE, regardless of gender, is shown to have a crush on Sebastian. There's a character, Grell, who is presented I think as an effeminate man (I say I think because the subs weren't great, and it was hard to tell if Grell was actually supposed to be genderqueer in some way or just super-camp - he basically came across to me like Jean Armstrong, idk), who unambigiously tries it on with Sebastian in pretty much every scene they have together, but that's basically treated as a big joke. I think Sebastian and Ciel's relationship would probably code as mega slashy if Ciel was older, and there are a handful of points where the creators probably are deliberately playing with Sebastian/Ciel fanservice, but the fact that Ciel is 12 just shuts down my slash goggles. There's some supremely kinky, very mindfuck-y rival!slash possibilities for Sebastian towards the end, though (can't really talk more about it without being spoilery), which I would be ALL OVER if it was anywhere to be found amidst the mass of Sebastian/Ciel :/
Tl;dr: it is as gay as it seems, but a lot of it's played for laughs and kind of creepy fanservice, and I didn't find a huge amount of actual slash fic potential in it. I did really enjoy it, though, much more than I thought I would (I was judging it by the fandom, though, which is never really fair).
