Maybe the shinigami badge was to keep Ichigo's reiratsu from coming back? After all, Ishida seemed wary of it and I'm guessing the night he lost his badge, he saw silhouettes of shinigami telling him to wake up.
One less shinigami for Soul Society to worry about, I suppose llD;;; Though that's kinda sad for Ichigo >>;
