and Tennant gives in and admits that he has this fantastic new velvet jacket and he's clearly torn between being wildly enthusiastic about his jacket and his coordinating snacks and a bit embarrased at being called on it by some guy in checkout

ME TOO! And then he will call security to come take me away when I look at his blue shirt and say, with great sympathy, something like 'Wow, it must be a bitch to try and find blue food'

not only am i sure he's had much weirder things said to him, poor guy, but i almost think he would somehow know what you meant. his gaaaaaaaaaaay metro ways are known far and wide, after all.
