Being Human (US)

Being Human, the pilot: vampire Mitchell made me believe he was a couple-of-century-old vampire, and now something apart from humanity. I should watch that pilot again, I loved it so much.
Being Human, the series: vampire Mitchell was a lot more human. It was a different take on it. Not a bad one; just not the one I preferred.
Being Human (US): vampire Aidan bores me to tears.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the actor. He was great as Crashdown, but then again everybody was great in BSG. But his Aidan? No, man. Just no. The looks aren't right, the emo isn't right, nothing is right, certainly not his performance. Then again, the only one who I found acted worth a damn was... surprisingly not Mark Pellegrino, but Sally the ghost.

Mark Pellegrino's Bishop was such a disappointment; I usually love what he does, and who better to play the American Herrick? But that did not work for me either. Josh the werewolf... at times seemed as if he were trying to mimick Russel Tovey (bad move, he is really nowhere near as good), at other times as if he thought he were in a sitcom. A nineties sitcom. I have a lot of love for some nineties sitcoms, but Being Human is not one.

I think I have two main problems with this version of Being Human: 1) what's the point? Hasn't the original Being Human aired in the US? Are they going to make things any different? Because watching the exact same show, but less well done, is very, very boring. (That's the reason I never watched QAF US. The beginning was too painful to bear.) 2) They have not found the right tone for it. Much as I preferred the original pilot because I liked its tone better than that of the series, the series still worked because it had a voice. They knew what they wanted to do with it. They balanced everything right. Whereas the US version is all over the place. Here, have some Anne Rice, and have some Twilight emo, and have some Twilight ribbing, and have some of the jokes we kept from the original but honestly, Russel Tovey was much funnier in a dress.

I don't know if it's just me, but I don't think I'm going to keep watching.
