A young man was walking through a graveyard one bleak afternoon, and the gray clouds above were threatening to pour down rain. But instead of heading home for shelter, he was walking among the tombstones. A fresh pile of roses lay atop the marker of one of his beloved relatives, for this was the anniversary of their death. But for some reason, even after he had prayed for his loved ones soul, he had not left. Instead, he walked through the ghostly quiet cemetery.
He wandered aimlessly, weaving in and out of the spaces in between the markers. His eyes glanced at the tombstones, skimming briefly over the inscriptions. He noted that some of these markers were very old- some of them were cracked and covered with moss. But one extremely beautiful, yet frightening plaque caused the man to pause and stand before it. The marker was a figure of an angel, carved out of marble. Its folded wings were forged gracefully into its back, and one of its arms was lifted in a motion that seemed to demand a passerby to halt. The man stood there for a moment, gazing with enchanted eyes at the sternness of the angel's look. His eyes slowly traveled downward to where the inscription was chiseled into the stone. This is what was written:
"Pause, my Friend,
As you walk by.
As you are now
So once was I.
As I am now
So you will be.
Prepare, my Friend,
To follow me."
The young man stared at the engraving...and stood in the rain thinking to himself
