Title: Headache (Part V of V)
Rating: G
AN: I considered asking someone to beta this update for me, but I decided, I'd probably never post. So Forgive me. All mistakes are mine. And I'm sure there are plenty.

It's great to see you writing again- and that you have time to do so. I'd admittedly forgotten about this.

Certainly, you bring varying touches of personal experience to your description of the rhythm and often frustrating pace and so-called "logistics" (or logistical nightmare) that patients and those accompanying them have to confront and navigate in a hospital. 'Tis the icing on the unappetizing cake.

In addition to this familiar and realistic depiction, you've done the same with the more traditional, closed bore MRI perspective. And since we'd want the most accurate imaging for Ryan, better this method than the less reliable "open" option.

ER physicians, as you indicate, never have the time to truly connect with any one patient, as is evident here. They are just one cog in the machine. Re-introducing the Cohen's doctor brings that more individual level of attention amidst the impersonal chaos. Still, it's apparent he has little time or contact with Ryan, nor knowledge about him. If he had, he'd consider that Ryan should have access to the best physical care of his life after 14 years of very questionable, sub-par nurturing and nutrition. Such is the nature of assembly line policy, especially for a kid who isn't part of the accepted community with a secure foothold.

Even if the Cohens perpetuate the emotional neglect and either choose to ignore, or fail to address and close some of the many existing gaps, providing the basic essentials that Ryan had always lacked just for sustenance and safety shouldn't be one area that would require any additional time or effort- and only minimal funds in the larger context. He should be at his healthiest- physically. (And, of course, none of them even entertain the cumulative stress because that would hit too close to home, and force some assessment of dynamics and behavior and cause disruption- as would exploring any historical or familial link and context.)

Thanks for updating. I'll hope for an epilogue too.

Oops, if I hadn't been on an empty tank with no sleep, I would have typed CT, not MRI. Yeah, I'd better not make THAT mistake in RL...
