Over the past few months I have been assisting both my daughters in preparing for life transitions. When they were younger they would have nothing to do with my area of expertise which happens to be life and career transitions. But now that they are older, they indicate that they have found my help invaluable, even though I retired 5 years ago.
Britpoppa has been applying to Graduate Schools in Library and Information Services and for various fellowships and assistantships. I have been reviewing and making suggestions on all of her documents. The result: Admission to 4 out of 5 programs applied to and wait-listed on the fifth. She also received offers of significant financial assistance at one program and moderate assistance at two others. The school she plans to attend still hasn't made their decisions regarding financial assistance.
Tiggrrl has been applying for new jobs and those of you who read her journal know all the nasty reasons why that is necessary at this time. After requesting help from all of her friends who have recently been in the job market and getting copies of their resumes, she found that Mom's suggestions, culled from experience and taking the best from the friend's offerings, produced the best application formats.
Let's hope that she gets some interview offers as a result of her applications. I will have tips for those as well.
Now, if I could only figure out how to get paid for what I do best, that would be da bomb!
