Yikes, My Foot

I have finally had to give in and ask for a podiatry consult on my sprained foot. I first hurt it back in October and after consulting with a KP advice nurse, we decided it was "only" sprained. The treatment, RICE. So after almost a week of that I was able to hobble around with an ace bandage as support. I was still wearing the bandage when I came out to visit Tiggrrl, Misha and The Girl in November. I finally stopped using the bandage but would get a twinge that would remind me that it wasn't completely healed at least once a day.

I finally started back exercising on February 4th. I was only walking the dog and doing water aerobics, so I didn't anticipate any difficulty. Then on Saturday, February 23rd I woke up with the foot in excruciating pain, just like it had been when I first sprained it. I don't know what I did when I was sleeping (wrestling a grizzly bear maybe) but I seriously re-injured it. I spent two days on the RICE regimen again, then went to see my doctor. A foot X-ray verified that there are no broken (or healed) bones in the foot. So she said to go back to using the ace bandage and to call her if things had not improved in a month. They have not, in fact, if anything they are worse. Hence my request for the podiatry consult.

I wouldn't get all undone over this except that I am coming out to CA at the end of May to do Disneyland with The Girl and her parents and I need to be able to walk and stand comfortable for long periods of time. Otherwise the trip will be a real bummer. I have not had really good experiences with podiatrists in the past, so I hope the upcoming visit will be an exception. If nothing else, I am hoping for some exercises or physical therapy that will help the foot heal sooner rather than later.
