XD Man, when the muse strikes, she really strikes.
Doesn't help that Hime and I spent the night plotting...does it? XDD No. No it doesn't.
And for the record...neither of us could stop laughing during this one...
Yelling, cursing, fighting, the metallic pangs of automail, and even the occasional minor explosion were the tell tale signs for anyone in Dublith to hit the high road and get out of town for the week.
It was about that time of year that Ed and Al came to visit their teacher, their families in tow. Over the years however, Dublith had become the sight of a family gathering of sorts. Even Rowan's Grandpa Roy and Grandma Riza would make the trip from Central to be with the family. What ensued was a week of laughter, stories, and enough food to feed the northern country of Drachma during the winter.
Rowan sat outside the din of Grandmaster Izumi and Grandfather Seig's house on the porch, trying, mostly in vain, to concentrate on the book in his lap. All hell had broken loose once the final member of the family had arrived, but that was to be expected, considering the assortment of characters that made up the family Elric.
"Rowan!" Sarah burst out of the door just as he managed to finish his third page. "Look at what Uncle John brought me!" She held out her wrist showing off a small charm bracelet, glinting with little silver charms. Rowan shut his book and leaned over to get a better look.
"...are those little tools?"
"Yeah! Isn't it great??"
Rowan just chuckled and shook his head, letting a grin play through to his lips. When it came to all things mechanical, Sarah was as, if not more enthusiastic than her mother. "Have things calmed down inside yet?"
"Kinda. Papa managed to break up your dad and Uncle John from their customary punch-in-the-face-greeting, though I think Grandmaster wanted to see who went down first."
"I told you we probably should have brought a first aid kit," Rowan sighed.
"If Izumi hasn't learned to keep one around by now, well, then someone diserves to get hurt."
"Uncle John!" Sarah latched her arms around his neck and pecked him on the cheek. "Thank you sooo much for the bracelet. I love it!"
He just chuckled and patted her head, moving to sit next to Rowan. "I'm glad. How do you like the book, Rowan?"
Rowan looked down at the thick leather tome underneath his fingers and smiled. "It's great. How did you know I liked mysteries?" Uncle John merely shrugged, causing Sarah's shoulders to bounce (as she was still attached to him).
"You pick up these things when you've been around as long as I have."
Rowan just smiled back. They'd known Uncle John as long as they could remember. Though they didn't get to see him as much as they would have liked, he'd never missed one of their little family reunions. The only other time during the year that they got to see him was when he turned up to see Alphonse about medicine, or Winry for automail adjustments. He would spend a bit of time with he and Sarah, then disappear; back to Central and the military before they missed him.
"Anyway, I was sent out here to tell you two that it's time for dinner."
"Yay! I'm starved!" Sarah bounced up and disappeared into the house, leaving the two young men in her wake to boggle over her bottomless energy.
John chuckled and clapped a hand on Rowan's shoulder as they stood. "I guess we should get inside as well, else your grandmother will have our heads."
Rowan smiled. "Uncle John, please be nice to dad this year."
A mischevious smile settled over his uncle's face, which did little to quell Rowan's fears. "You know I can't do that. Your father and I have history, and I just can't ignore that."
"At least try not to start as many fist fights this year?"
"Deal."
The two walked inside and towards the kitchen. Rowan paused as they passed the couch and stopped. His father was kneeling behind the coffee table, squinting near-sightedly under the couch.
"Dad?"
"Rowan, have you seen my glasses? I know they were just here..."
"Uh...no, I've been outside. Did you check in the kitchen?" Just then, he heard a light chuckle from the doorway. John was watching them and trying to conceal a smile; however his lavender eyes were a dead giveaway. Rowan looked over at his father, who was glaring at his uncle, a slight growl working its way up into his throat.
"What's the matter, Ed? Can't find your eyes?"
"Wrath...!"
Rowan sighed as the fist fight his uncle had apparently only delayed rung in the start of the Elric Family Reunion.
