OS X officially UNIX

Aug 07, 2007 20:20

Apple is set to release in October a new version of their operating system (OS X 10.5).  Following with their tradition of naming versions of the OS X operating system after large cats they've dubbed OS X 10.5 - Leopard.  This new version has been given UNIX 03 Certification which means that it is consider a full UNIX operating system.  This is good news since means some of the quirks in Tiger (OS X 10.4) that prevented certain pieces of software written for UNIX have been (or should have been) worked out.
