in film bastardization news, a sequel to donnie darko is in the works, without richard kelley. even with him, it shouldn't be done. more info here.
speed racer has already flopped. really flopped. ouch.
gore virbinski, director of the 'pirates of the caribbean' movies is set to direct the film version of the video game bioshock, which pulls inspiration from ayn rynd and orwell among other things. should be interesting how the filmmakers tackle the moral issue that is central to the plot of the game.

there's a new cgi star wars film out this summer. here's the poster and the trailer
it looks okay, but i don't think it merits a theatrical release.
superman brand routh was cast in dylan dog, based on an italian graphic novel.
interesting article about preserving the film of pre-1951 movies, since the negatives are starting to fall apart.

nickelodeon has guts...again
vh1 proves that it is not done scraping the bottom of humanity's barrel by going all out to bring us I LOVE MONEY, a reality show full of rejects from flavor of love, i love new york, and rock of love. yes, indeed.
tim kring has evidently not learned his lesson from season two of heroes, as he has already cast two of a rumored five (up to as many as seven) new characters. this does not bode well for season three.
