I think the common link between all the crises you mentioned is credit. We're all spending "imaginary" money that we don't have. I think we should all go back to "the gold standard" and only spend money we actually have.
I mean, this Iraq war is all paid with credit. I'm not paying for it and neither are you. Our kids are paying for it. If Americans had to pay for this war with their current taxes, then it would end tomorrow.
