I was born in West Virginia and spent several summers of my youth in South Charleston at my grandma's, picking tomatoes at the break of dawn, milking cows, churning butter, and slathering calamine lotion all over my poison ivy break outs. It was a lot of fun and I loved that there were so many hills and mountains, but I don't think I could make WV a destination.
Texas is pretty nice. I grew up in Houston and spent plenty of weekends in Austin or Galveston, but I have to say that Dallas is my favorite city here, so I guess I'm lucky since Dallas is where I live. However, I would not have known what a great city it is until I moved here. It always seemed too flashy and arrogant to me, kind of what I imagine LA to be like, but within the flash is great people and businesses and a wonderful live music scene. Plus, you have Denton a few miles north of here, where UNT is located. It has one of the best music programs in the nation, so the City of Denton spawns a ton of great bands, regardless of whether they're even in the music program at UNT or not.
I've always thought that Chicago would be a nice place to live. It almost feels like a smaller version of NYC, and they have a great music scene as well, which to me is always a consideration when moving somewhere. But then again, I never graduated from college!
So you spent a lot of summers close to where I live now ... small world huh?
Yes, Chicago has a wonderful music scene. One of my favorite bands (Fall Out Boy) is out of the windy city. I just love it there ... I feel in love the minute I stepped foot in that city.
