Ugh, you make my heart feel full! hahah THANK YOU. And omg the beach house hahaha. There are so many scenes I have plotted out! Like one where Kristen decides she's going to make a liquor store run one morning and Bill insists on going with her and she's like NO, I CAN DO IT MYSELF, NO BIG DEAL, and he's like " . . . do you not know us we are going to need a flotilla of booze," so they drive in silence to the liquor store with obnoxious Christmas music playing on the car radio and the windows are down and that warm beach breeze and when they finally get to the liquor store they get into a fight in the big walk-in beer fridge about which beer to buy which totally dovetails into a bigger argument about the both of them and they're, like, whisper yelling at each other and talking over each other and wind up spending a gross amount on alcohol and when they get back to the beach house and they're unloading the car, someone (who I can't help but picture as Maya hahaha) is like, "whoa, why."

(And omgggggggggggg, YES TO ALL OF THIS! Bill and Kristen as the friends with benefits! And they try to play it off that they're all cynical and above this marriage convention crap, but lol, drunk married! And the funniest part is that they never divorce! And Seth and Amy omgggg, and ahaha Maya and JSuds! TINA AND JIMMY HAHA. omg we could totally throw in other awesome funny people like Gillian Jacobs and the Bateman and others! (OMG, TWEAK A FEW DETAILS AND THIS CAN BE THE BEACH HOUSE MOVIE CAST, HAHA.)

AND NEVER STOP TYPING, I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS.)

Shit, that FWK re-dub needs to happen. For, like, my sanity.

I now want this with a violence and passion that borderline frightens me.

Okay, how does it work? Like, SNL alum filming the film and Bill and Kristen dealing with the fact of playing friends with benefits or in-universe FWK starring everybody's favourite SNL cast members?

Also, a SNL RPF fic-a-thon needs to happen like yesterday.

omggggg I'm kinda really into the in-universe idea? Like, AU it up and make them all college friends or something? IDK, BOTH IDEAS HAVE A TON OF MERIT HAHA.

But wow, kinda reeling from the idea of them getting accidentally married hahahaha.

And HAHAHA OMG, it would be like you and me prompting the same shit and maybe one fill thrown in there.

I prefer in-universe too. UGH, COLLEGE FRIENDS WITH MAYBE A BACKGROUND IN IMPROV? I don't know, I love the comedian/enne lifestyle edge to this verse.

Ugh, for real! But let's have them, like, not? Have a baby? Or maybe he has a baby with somebody else in the meantime but he doesn't love her, so they raise it amicably, and like partners, except his one and only is still Kristen, and she's kind of like, "well, I don't really want kids, so..." But damn. Do I want this.

Hahaha, maybe. Okay, yes. But people seem to like this fic, maybe a fic-a-thon will bring out everybody's secret SNL desires.

THAT CAN BE HOW THEY ALL MET, SOME IMPROV THING ON CAMPUS. And Amy headed it up and they all became friends via that group but went on to do different things after, but maybe all still sort of centered around that lifestyle? Like Maya's a Broadway performer and Kristen is a writer for a show that airs at Rockefeller Center and Bill works in the newsroom at MSNBC, etc., etc.?

Y E S . Oh my god I am kinda in love with the idea of her being the reluctant stepmother, hahaha, and all the awkwardness that would ensue because of that. Her all like, "What do kids eat? What do I need to buy? Would a kid eat this?" and she holds up a box of, like, fiber cereal, and he's just like whaaaaaat "They are small humans, they eat human things," and there's that undercurrent there where a) they got married without planning it, and b) she now is the de facto stepmother haha. OBSESSED WITH IT.

LOLLLL THIS IS TRUE! I legit thought only you'd read this hahaha. PLEASANT SURPRISE! But okay maybe (aka totally) tomorrow I will make a fic-a-thon post. Because I am me.

THAT IS A THING YOU NEED TO WRITE LIKE, NOW MICHELLE. I AM GOING TO PROMPT YOU THAT SHIT TIL THE END OF TIME but honestly that is like, everything that is good and wonderful.

Gillian can totally be Kristen's cousin or something and she always sorts of pops up when everyone least wants her around? And Bateman could be Kristen's ex who always sort of stuck around despite the fact that nobody likes him? (And maybe he and Gillian could bang? #priorities) But also I am crying at the spiral you and Jordan had below: RELUCTANT STEPMOTHERING oh my god. Like I was just in it for them having like a big drunk wedding and like neither of them annulling it beacuse it's just a piece of paper right? But the fact that Bill ends up having a kid with someone else sort of massively makes them think about the fact that they are technically married and makes shit complicated and whatever so they have to deal with what that means - and maybe they have to move in together for some sort of custody shit idk, I've had whisky this sounds legit.

Oh my goddddd, Izi, I may or may not have accidentally started fleshing this whole thing out? And merged the FWK and beach house idea into one big ol' mess?

They all met in college but weren't necessarily good friends in college? Amy started up -- what ultimately became a big hit -- improv group on campus and that's how they all met and then all became better friends when they all wound up in New York and kept running into each other, and buddies! Friends with drama! Amy and Will are married and they're the ones with the beach house who host some big old holiday party a week before Christmas, and Amy is an actress on a hit comedy series and Will is a producer at the network, and Seth is still in love with Amy (and has been since college, let's be real) and the head writer for a variety sketch show, and he goes to the party even though he knows it is a TERRIBLE idea bc Will will be there, because, like, it's his house. And Maya and Jason were the first to get married out of the group, and Maya is now a performer on Broadway and Jason works, unhappily, at GE, and they can't have kids (a thing that Maya takes SUPER PERSONALLY when Bill accidentally knocks up his first wife after they separated but that's a whole other ordeal), and Jason may or may not be stepping out on Maya with IDK WHO YET, but some gurl who works at GE too. And Tina and Jimmy are the happiest of them all, and it's like out of all of them, they're the ones that got it right, and Tina works for a publishing house and Jimmy just got a huge gig on the Today Show after toiling away at NY local news, but Tina also just had their second kid, so their lives are bonkers busy. Aaaaaaand Kristen and Bill! He works in the MSNBC newsroom and she's the writer for a popular TV series shot at 30 Rock, and they knew each other in college but didn't really get close until after they graduated and were living in New York, and they become friends with benefits, but then he meets his first wife and the week before his wedding, Kristen is drunk and actually says out loud DON'T GET MARRIED, but he does, and that's just the most humiliating thing E V E R , but now it's a year later and he's getting a divorce and Kristen really hasn't talked to him in awhile, but he shows up at the beach house and DRAMAAAAAAA. Oh and then for New Year's they wind up going to Vegas with some of the gang and whoops they get married and whoops they decide that divorce/getting it annulled is more trouble than it's worth, and whoops turns out his ex-wife is pregnant and whoops he's the father and YUP, IT'S GR89.

And ahhhhh all the supporting characters! James Franco is Bill's weirdo friendo and he works with Seth Rogen at MSNBC, and omg kinda in love with your idea for Gillian! I was originally thinking that she worked on Amy's show and had only recently been integrated into their group of friends, and Bateman is Will Arnett's best buddy and a sort of douchey stock brokerand he's kinda the worst, but they all tolerate him bc he inevitably has really great connections to parties in NY/is WIll's bff/maybe he and Kristen dated for a little/Bill hates him. Ohhhhhh and I somehow want Rose Byrne in on this whole mess, like she's Kristen's frenemy and super rich and living on the Upper East Side with a husband (IDK WHO) who she kinda despises and is cheating on him with NONE OTHER THAN MMMGOODE (bc I am me, and MmmGoode can be some British ex-pat businessman), and she's constantly filling Kristen in on the drama that is her life, etc., etc. OH AND STICK JASON SEGEL AND BUSY PHILIPPS IN THERE SOMEWHERE AND WE ARE SET. And maybe John Cho. For reasons.

I clearly have not thought about this at all.

EVERYTHING IS THE GREATEST OH MY GOD, I LOVE THAT YOU'VE COMBINED THEM and just, ACH SETH STILL PINING so probably extramarital affairs x at least 2 excellent. MAYA AND JASON STOP you see I am a terrible person who really enjoys stories about couples who want but can't have kids so that is like, golden. ALL THE KRISTEN BILL STUFF IS GR89 AND I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE THAT ALL UNRAVEL AND ALSO CRYING THIS IS THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING.

I love all the supporting cast - omg Busy how have we not incorporated her yet I honestly don't know but obvs Jason because he's part and parcel with Seth. Also I love the Bateman stuff because that is pretty much what I was thinking only more articulated. And Gillian could totally be her cousin, that's completely viable OF COURSE ROSE AND MMMGOODE I LOVE IT. Also maybe John Cho could be Kristen's only good boyfriend who like, everyone loved (except for Bill for reasons) but she was always dissatisfied with? Or he could be her ~real life~ Jon Hamm in Bridesmaids type?

Reply

falseeeyelashes March 18 2012, 23:32:12 UTC
I FORGOT ALL ABOUT JON HAMM! He can totally be Rose's husband who always hits on Kristen, so whenever Kristen is supposed to do dinner with Rose and Jon, she drags Bill with her, and he always begrudgingly goes because a) doesn't trust Hamm and b) because he's Bill lol.

But oh mannnnnnnnn, I wish I could snap my fingers and this would be already made and real ahahha. I also just realized we have three Jasons (three!) in this story and I am dying of laughter lol. I feel like Busy is the crazy friend they all keep around bc she provides levity and shots, seeing as she is a bartender. And Gillllllllllian, yes! I feel like Gillian could be the element introduced that really screws with the whole group dynamic? She's younger than them? Suds is into her in a way he has no right being into her? AND YES! CHO WAS WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SUCCESS STORY! And they somehow have stayed friends after?

YESSSSS that actually all slots into place so well.

If only that was the way it worked - I'd then be shot of my fucking Jane/Reg OPUS ugh. Oh god three Jasons that does not bode well but also crying just a bit. YES Busy's also like, resident advice giver alongside Maya. GILLIAN IS THE GAME CHANGER she is the thing that unsettles everything omg, because she could totally move to New York and take the receptionist or whatever job at GE and that just starts to throw everything off. They stayed friends because secretly it wasn't working for him either so they called it quits even though everyone else was disappointed and just became like good casual friends instead? She probably set him up with his current/most recent girlfriend or what have you because he's that dude

falseeeyelashes March 18 2012, 23:46:10 UTC
OMG YOUR JANE/REG OPUS ;______; don't you dare think I have forgotten about that!!!

And ahahaha Busy, the advice giver! It's sort of like Maya's the angel on your shoulder and Busy's the devil and you go to whichever one based on the sort of advice you want to receive (aka, "think about the consequences . . ." vs. "oh my god do it do it do it"). AND YES! GILLIAN THE RECEPTIONIST! And the worst part is, Suds got her the job bc Kristen asked him to help her out and that makes things SO AWKWARD in the future. And bc of Gillian (but not really, she's just the catalyst) all these fissures in this group of friends start becoming WAY MORE APPARENT.

And yesssssssss. She totally set him up! Tho idk with who! But she totally dated Cho during that one year Bill was married to someone else; like, he was a rebound (even tho she never really was with Bill, but whatever) that grew into something else and everyone was rooting for her to stay with him, but, eh, didn't work, ahaha.

I was totally writing some of it in the hospital today because that's the kind of person I am now.

YESSSSS THEY TOTALLY ARE, like reason and throwing caution to the wind. Oh man yes, the fact that it's all down to Kristen as well totally bites her in the ass - there's clearly this huge fight with them about how she was doing her a solid and she fucked everything up but Gillian tells her it's clearly been fucked up for ages.

I sort of really want it to be like, Naomi Harris for no real reason? But yeah he was clearly the good guy rebound and they all wanted it to work for her. Their break up was totally a relief for both of them I think which she wasn't expecting?
